She's the right age for this type of thing, as bizarre as it seems. Her family wouldn't have to be involved in any way, but someone who knows the community could easily have been.

A 14 yr. old Mormon girl ran away a couple of years ago because she was going to be married off to a much older guy that she didn't like. Wonder if this is close.

The parents don't seem too concerned.....sorry....I wuldn't be able to talk and I SURE wouldn't be going on EVERY TV show out there.

The SLC Police must be REALLYYY slow since there were many neighbors at the house BEFORE the police got there.

Your ignorance about Mormons is showing. The adolescents being married off to older men (often close relatives) are in little isolated polygamist sects that keep to themselves, and have no connection whatsoever to either the main LDS Church or the legitimate breakaway group, which was known as the RLDS Church until changing its name to "Community of Christ" last year. As has been widely publicized, the Smart family are active members of the LDS Church. If they, or any of their relatives or neighbors, had any connections to any of these polygamist groups, the police and Utah media would have been all over that angle by now.

The polygamy related abuses are a serious problem with the women and children. However, for a man to steal a girl for his polygamist wife is way out there. The polygamists tend to marry girls at a young age from another polygamist family. The Smarts are not polygamists, they are a very well known family in SLC.

It wasn't a Mormon girl who ran away, if LDS members are found to be in a polygamist group, we would be excommunicated immediately. The girl in question belonged to a fundamentalist group, had been 'married' to her uncle, and ran away. they found her once, took her home, and beat her, she ran away again, this time Utah Social Services found out and took custody. I do believe the uncle is in prison for sexual abuse of a minor.

I am a little behind in reading here, so I am jumping ahead, hoping this was not reported yet.

Tonight, Tuesday, on O'Reilly, he had Mark Klass (sp). Mark said that he was having interference with the Uncle (Mr. Smart's brother Tom ). Mark wanted to bring in a noted artist to draw a composit of the man who abducted Elizabeth.He also said that one of the main important things that should be done is to talk with the young girl, and get a picture of the man out to the public. This is what I said in an earlier post ! Why put out the Red Berret' guy ??? UNCLE STOPPED THAT IN IT'S TRACKS !

Mark Klass also said that the Uncle is running the show, the Dad is doing the same., and they are not co-operating , I missed maybe the first 3 min. of the interview, and plan on catching the repeat at 10 central time.

He also interviewed two daughter's of this Uncle Tom, who are working with the organization to rally people for the cause. They hedged on WHY their father (Tom) is saying and doing what he is doing. It was very very strange. Catch the repeat if you can.

There is something very fishy going on. Klass was visably agitated tonight. Frustrated.

I saw that interview with Klass also. Was very interesting. Although I do think Klass was referring to the Uncle not cooperating with him.....not police. Don't quite know what to make of it.

It is even logical to assume that she didn't wait that long but the police and parents didn't want to anger the abductor by a public announcement that the girl didn't wait. It would not be prudent to do that and anger someone who is deranged.

This behavior suggests to me that the parents either knew or suspected that the "unknown, armed abductor" story was not entirely true.

Let me see if I understand. Yoour premise is they delayed in calling the police because they had something to do with the abduction and so to cover their tracks they invited the neighborhood over instead of the police.

One thing that bothers me here. How could the perp be sure that there would be no screams from either of the girls? If someone goes into a home in the middle of the night, that must be the big thing on their mind. This is a curious aspect of this case.

Say there HAD been screaming. Almost certainly he could have fled downstairs and out the door before anyone could have stopped him.

And IMO the girls of this age will scream over any imagined or real excitement or stimulation, but if frightened would clam up and crawl silent into a hole and die. [n q lit, but almost]
