I was the lowest ranking guy on my sub. All they would let me do was steer the helm (Left & Right) and the bow and stern planes (Up and Down). I was in the Naval Reserve (two years active duty only) so they could not invest much in me with the short duty time. They would have sent me to nuclear school (It was new then) but, I would have had to 'sign-up' for six more years. So....

Every person on a crew is important, like links in a chain it takes every one to accomplish the mission. Thanks for telling about your role on the sub. I think it's neat how you got to steer it.
