Are the FBI and CIA going to report to this new cabinet authority? Seems like I don't recall the mention of these two bad boys in GWB's speech. I don't think any new cabinet member will have much of an idea what is going on unless those two agencies are brought under this new umbrella.

This thing will probably include a firearms control amendment and other touching additions ... which of course, President Bush will sign, telling us the same "reasoning" with which he approved the Campaign Finance Reform bill or the same "reasoning" behind his approval of a vast immigration net mostly full of holes.

Well, golly, gee! I see you are on this thread as well!

If you will read the Washington Post article about how this was organized, you will understand why there are constitutional and securiy reasons why these agencies were kept separate.

Not to mention until we figure out how badly the FBI was infiltrated (Robert Hansen) it is better that the FBI be kept separate.

Couldn't agree more that this is definitely part of what is wrong with Congress! I was shocked to read about so many committees/subcommittees with just these few organizations. I cannot imagine how many there are in all of Congress.

Facts please not inuendoes about gun control! Why do you think this would have anything to do with gun control when this Administration through AG Ashcroft just supported the 2nd amendment?

The Bush [still running the Clinton] Administration is compromised by such left-, hold-, overs; in addition to which is the little matter, or the fact of the matter, that the Congress will construct the legislation; that is to say, the Hillary Clinton - Tom Daschle - Charles Schumer triumvirate.

You may recall that the camel is a horse designed by legislative committee.

Builders who would make changes for their own interested outcome, not to mention the making of even more changes which would present as a challenge to the President, to see just how far they can continue to compromise him,

This is bound to get more interesting with all the personal interests of Congress involved. Have a hunch they may have pushed this President all that they are going to because he has raised a ton of money for Republicans this Fall to Take Back and Senate and Keep the House. Believe the RATS headed by daschle/clinton have misjudged this President. Just wish that Lott wasn't in charge of the Republicans in the Senate -- I don't trust him at all!
