Should be interesting to watch the turf battles. The fact that this bill touches 88 committees or subcomittees means that we have too many committees/subcommittees in Congress. Maybe they should consider consolidation of some of the committees! That is absolutely ridiculous to have so many Committees involved with these agencies. Must be people in the agencies that their only purpose is to answer Congress!

Another flash point is Bush's plan to move the Immigration and Naturalization Service to the new agency from the Justice Department. Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said some lawmakers object to combining the agency's duty to process legitimate immigrant visas with the job of border control under the ``homeland security'' title. ``There may be some concern that it could send the wrong message, that it's anti-immigrant or something,'' said Thornberry, co-sponsor of a House homeland security agency bill.
God forbid that protection of our borders should be considered part of Homeland Security. It looks like the Bush Administration is correct on an immigration issue. How did this get past Rove?

Amazing 88 committees! Each one can waste money and probably increase spending levels for their rats employed by the various departments. Then as you point, out these departments have to have experts whose only job is to report to these committees. I getting one of my rare headaches.

Thank you for adding me to your ping list.

If our borders are not Homeland Security, I sure do not know what is!

Yes it will get very interesting as they begin to divy up who will lose power and who will gain. I believe I'll post a link over on the debate thread......

I couldn't believe these various organizations are managed by 88 committees/subcomittees. Just having Homeland Security report to one committee in the House and one in the Senate should cut down on the number of staffers required in Congress -- I know -- I am dreaming! Maybe Congress should start consolidating -- no wonder you cannot follow the status of a bill with so many committees/subcommittees. Think it is time we all looked at the Budget of Congress!

As you know, Congress has declared itself exempt from many of the laws and edicts that it has placed on us. Most of the PC and affirmative actions laws/edicts do not apply to congress. Do they pay social security inspite of hammering us with it?
So when they talk about monitoring spending, they only mean it when it applies to defense not the Senate and the House and their expenses.

Questions are being raised by Republicans(John McCain and Arlene Sphincter) and Democrats(every last lyin' one of 'em)...

Apparently now that they've had time to actually READ the plan, everyone likes it? :-)

You are so right! This should prove interesting though! The usual suspects who love nothing better than get their mugs on prime time are rearing their ugly heads.
Actually I hope the DemocRATS throw in all types of roadblocks so we can go into the Fall elections with them doing zero, zip, nada!

Apparently now that they've had time to actually READ the plan, everyone likes it? :-)Wonder why so many of them wanted to debate on the Activism Thread but are so silent now. Figure they should be hitting this and the other debate thread as the evening goes on with their FACTS as to why this is such a bad idea!

The 'church mouse' would not be startled as best I gather....... He could scurry around without distraction it seems.....

That is absolutely ridiculous to have so many Committees involved with these agencies. Must be people in the agencies that their only purpose is to answer Congress! It's known as "job security".
And the more committees and subcommittees, the more congressional committee and subcommittee chairman who can brag about their preeminence to their adoring constituencies.
This is a big part of what's wrong with congress.
