Profiling "Arab looking types" simply means the smart and resourceful terrorists (in other words, the dangerous ones) will use people who don't fit the ethnic profile.

It's not only wrong, it's dangerous.

-Eric

You're dead wrong, Pal. You seem to have thrown your emotions, misbegotten normative notions, and mistaken empirical ideas in a pot together, and let them simmer a long time. Now you claim to be able to distinguish the ingredients by taste, but you can't. Maybe you couldn't temm them apart, when they were raw.

You need to explain why it would be morally wrong to place members of suspect groups under greater scrutiny than other groups. You also have to make a case that the Arab terrorist cells are so ingenious, flexible, and diverse, that they will ANTICIPATE the profiling of 20 and 30-something, Arab males, and automatically switch to their many blonde-haired, blue-eyed operatives (ROTFLMAO!).

I saw some activists in Seattle trying to entice pedestrians on a street corner to listen to their plees that Ashcroft is creating a police state in America.

Somehow I wish that the terrorists, if they do strike again, would strike these fools and leave the rest of us alone.

"how about both?"

Pigs AND dogs? Nah, the pigs would probably kill the dogs off and eat THEM first, then be too full to turn on the terrorists...might ruin the effect.

I agree. I think a formal declaration of war would keep the fifth column here, in check.

Just approximate it as a spherical system in equilibrium with an attractive force 1/r, V(x,t)=V(x)... Psi(x,t) = R(r)Theta(theta)Phi(phi)... Cleans up nice...

Yeah, putting it into spherical symmetry does allow for separation of variables, the first trick in the bag. However, the Windex-crud interaction force isn't spherically symmetric initially. It's got planar symmetry, a CInfinityV point group, IMHO, also depending upon the window geometry.

I'd try a Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential function. I don't really think there is any angular dependence, and while the colatitude might have some small effect, I'd bet it's negligible.

So much for profiling "Arab looking" types...

Don't say that too loudly...You'll blow the cover of the racist, Islam hating, Jesus freaks who unfortunately permiate this place.

from the Constitution Society

Article the seventh [Amendment V]

No person[does not say "citizen"] shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Article the eighth [Amendment VI]

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

"Actually he is an American Citizen...which is a true shame!"

Yes, he is an American Citizen now, but that doesn't mean that at one time he wasn't an illegal alien who later received amnesty.

I don't think you can describe it on the h-bar scale, dude. Something Newtonian, about a coeff of static friction, and miscibility of crud with Windex-- how much would it have to be in solution-- then static friction of crud-Windex soln on glass pane, how big of a solution buildup would you have to have to start it dripping down the glass pane... No h-bars here dude. Too big a scale.

Gotta start somewhere, man. Look at a single droplet of Windex. Then, we can generalize to the entire window surface later. Or, we can do an ab initio simulation on one droplet, and copy that as a Grand Canonical Ensemble.

Loonies at DU are upset that we captured this clown

http://www.democraticunderground.com/cgi-bin/duforum/duboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=23347&forum=DCForumID5&omm=0

The general consensus by the DUers is that this news hurts their chances to get rid of Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, and Rumsfeld. I think the mere fact that these people look at the political aspects of this news rather than the fact that a plot to kill Americans was foiled speaks volumes to what constitutes the "die-hard" Democrat-base nowdays.

Three cheers to DemocraticUnderground.com for shooting themselves in the foot and shedding light on what we all suspect: these folks are just plain nuts!

In the absence of a formal declaration of war, what are we going to do with this sucker?

Thanks for the reply. I understand this part very well. Even the UCMJ has clauses like this to some extent. What I do not understand is how the US Attorney could not prove its case even with the very limited standards it had to meet, and how we are detaining especially a US Citizen without due process unless Habeas Corpus has been suspended? Even in a time of war. To further add injury to insult, this guy is NOT being charged.

Again I am not opposed to detaining people who are National Security risks. Heck I can even close my eyes to foreigners, but not a US Citizen. My main concern is really not this case, but we are setting a standard for anyone to be detained if a US Attornry or the AG doesn't get they're way.

Jesus loves you Johnny Shear!

He died for your sins.

He would not like you calling his followers freaks.

Jim Robinson has asked for no personal attacks on his forum.

You have just attacked all Christians.

His followers on this forum are waiting for an apology.

And Lord knows they’d prefer the death of millions of Americans before hearing their names mentioned as intolerant by Sharpton or Jackson.

Sad but True Reality Bump.

No, I attacked racist, Islam hating, Jesus freaks.

I have all the respect in the world for Christians. Just like I do Jews, Muslims, Hindus and any other religion you can mention. I believe religion gives people who might not otherwise have it, strength and stability in their personal lives.

Not hard, just takes a while:

So, assuming these terrorists have been planning things for at least five years, there are probably citizens of the U.S. who are terrorists. Lovely.

So, why do people always distinguish between citizens and non-citizens when talking about "what to do with the middle easterners"? Any ideas?

The theory of gravity is a theory as well.

Faith based on an ignorant belief such as creationism is shaky at best. At least my faith is strong enough that I am able to contemplate and accept valid scientific discoveries and still not lose my belief in G*d.

Imagine how many lost their faith when it was discovered that the Earth wasn't flat after all! I don't let blind acceptance of someone's "INTERPRETATION" of the bible cloud and confuse my ability for rational thought.

But hey I guess if it makes you happy... fine. PS As for getting upset about my post.... well ask yourself how some people feel when they get accosted by evangelicals trying to witness on this forum every time anyone ever makes a comment about evolution. Think about it.... turnabout is fair play. Good Bye.
