After the United States soccer team's shocking defeat of Portugal on Thursday in the World Cup, I would like to find out who will be watching the U.S. play South Korea on Monday morning? The match is on at 1:20 a.m. central time on ESPN2(fire up the coffee maker).
I did not get up to watch the Portugal match because I was not too confident in the U.S.'s chances but I am starting to turn into a believer. I will be watching this one live. It was very surprising that about 1 million people in the United States watched the U.S.-Portugal game last Wednesday at 4 o'clock in the morning. GO USA!!!

Here is the AP story
USA-Portugal sets ESPN2 record
The USA win over Portugal, shown at 5 am ET/2 am PT, set a record for the largest audience to watch a soccer game on ESPN2. According to Nielsen Media Research, 998,000 households tuned in. The Associated Press reported that Spanish-language Univision is drawing significantly more viewers for World Cup games than ESPN and ESPN2. Univision averaged of 627,000 households for its first 17 broadcasts, according to the network. ESPN averaged 447,000 households for its first three broadcasts and ESPN2 averaged 496,000 for its first 10.

"1 million" watching in the U.S. could be correct. Of that number, about a few dozen will be actual American citizens. We have what -- 20 million illegal immigrants in the country? Do the math...

Look at #4. I was off about 2,000.

Don't let some of these idiots bother you. They are cranky old men.

I'm debating it right now

Soccer is a sport for Eurotrash and the liberals who admire them. I care more about the NBA championship and baseball than I do about that Gay sport.
No offense.

Oddly enough, I will be watching at the even slightly more insane time of 2:20 EASTERN TIME! Lets just say there has been a lot of nap planning involved. USA-Portugal was a breeze by comparison.

Hmmmm.....don't think I can work that into my schedule. I believe that may be the time Art Bell has some aliens on who are recruiting volunteers for anal probes. :o)
I guess it wouldn't hurt to turn on the TV and watch a few minutes of the match though. 'Might cure my insomia.

Great...I finally happen to be in the same time zone as the World Cup (Japan), and the US-South Korea game is NOT going to be broadcast on local TV. Guess I'll have to catch the highlights show.
Did you watch Korea's first match? Though the Koreans are not generally considered a strong side, I think the US team will be in for quite a fight if the Koreans show the same hustle they did against Poland.

I'll be watching, just like the last game. But, it comes on at 2:20am here. Then again, I don't have to work tomorrow.
The real action will be in the streets after the game if the US beats S Korea. Look for rioting, anti US students to go mad.

Actually, more than 1 million people watched. The article says 998,000
households. While single person households have increased over the years, they're still a lot of multi-person households.
Also, I doubt that illegal aliens are Nielsen households, so the actual viewership would have been a bit higher.
Finally, here on the East Coast, the game was on from 5 AM to 7 AM. Turning it on instead of watching the local news repeat the weather and traffic every ten minutes wasn't that difficult. I find soccer generally dull, but for one morning it was something more interesting to watch.

Wow the NBA championship has been nothing but thrilling (YAWN!). NBA ratings are at an all time low and will go lower because nobody wants to watch a bunch of ganster thugs trash talk and make millions. As for baseball give me a break, those spoiled lazy roid ragers will have a work stoppage coming up very soon because they are greedy and spoiled. The national past time is way past its prime.

Yeah, South Korea has been in the past a very bad side. They have made it to the World Cup quite a few times but they always get thrashed.
This side is a little different and when you play in your backyard it usually evens things up. I hope the U.S. advances to the second round because in '98 it was embarassing to say the least. The U.S. '98 performance was a real set back for soccer in the U.S. Bruce Arena has coached winners in the past and I really believe this team could advance to the quarterfinals.

The "international" sport of Soccer is about as interesting to Americans as watching the International Paint-Drying Championship...
And as to those "illegals", I'd assume America's uninvited "international guests" will be huddled in front of their TVs to root on anybody but the U.S. team.

Oh, and FAG BALL (soccer) is SOOOO EXCITING! Pick up the damn ball and do some more scoring! Soccer is about as American as Communism! It has been a total failure as a professional sport.
