First: Ay Rabs, Diaperheads, and Rags. FR in general and J. Rob in particular have policies against using racist terms on the boards. I hate the Taleban et all as much as the next guy, but I also know some good Arabs who are good Americans. They don't deserve that.

Second: As far as using nukes goes I don't think that it's possible unless we could localize a large number of terrorists in a desolate geographic reigon where the fallout would have little effect. Same goes for chem/bio weapons, the damage to the lands outside of the target area makes using them nearly verboten outside of extreme emergency.

Now, if we could find some way to nuke just Osama, I'd be all about that. :)

Al-Qaeda dream of WMD, and maybe one day they will get them. But if they had them now, I think they would have used them. The most likely scenario is that Saddam Hussein supplied the 9-11 team just enough anthrax to issue a credible threat, designed to deter any finger-pointing by Washington, and no more than that. Saddam doesn't want to die, and he is a sitting duck for US retaliation. From his standpoint, al-Qaeda are tools, means to an end -- he doesn't want them going off half-cocked and bringing the house down on his own head.

Interesting calculus. President Bush is focused on crushing the nests of terrorists around the world and preparing to take out those regimes which will develop and provide WMD to them. The latter has the side benefit of beginning the draining of the swamp where these monsters gestate. How far do we have to go? That's up to the people in the societies growing the terrorists. If they evade our defenses and strike the homeland again, our society has to restructure to expedite the crushing of the enemy, i.e. go on a total war footing.

BTW, if this communique is verified as coming from al Qaida, Bush or a high official should go on prime time TV and read it to the American people. This will steel our resolve and put our "allies" on notice that we will do whatever is necessary.
