More than 500 representatives of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies were briefed on extremist and terrorist threats during a daylong conference co-sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The May 31 program, held at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, was an outgrowth of ADL's longtime involvement in providing information and training to law enforcement on threats posed by extremists. The conference, "Extremist and Terrorist Threats: Protecting America After 9/11" included presentations from ADL, FBI and other nationally recognized experts on extremist groups, investigative techniques, counterterrorism strategies, domestic security and threat assessment.
"Now more than ever, law enforcement must have the resources and know-how to prevent future acts of terrorism," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "In order to assess threats against the United States, law enforcement must have credible information about domestic and foreign extremists whose rhetoric promotes violence. Through our network of regional offices and our experts in the field, ADL is uniquely suited to aid in the war against terrorism. This conference was an opportunity for law enforcement and extremism watchdogs to compare notes and forge alliances."
The conference brought together representatives of federal, state and local law enforcement from every region of the U.S., and included participants in the FBI National Academy, ADL regional directors, area counsels and investigative researchers.
The program featured opening remarks from Mr. Foxman and Dr. Kathleen L. McChesney, the FBI's Executive Assistant Director for Law Enforcement Services. The plenary session, "Right and Left, Domestic and Foreign: An Overview of Extremist and Terrorist Movements and Groups," featured presentations from Dr. Bruce Hoffman, Director of the Washington office of The Rand Corporation; Greg Comcowich, Intelligence Research Specialist in the FBI's Counterterrorism Division; and Mark Pitcavage, ADL Director of Fact Finding.
James T. Caruso, the FBI's Deputy Executive Assistant Director for Counterterrorism and Counterintelligence, delivered the keynote address.
Five concurrent workshops focused on Threat Assessment on the State and Local Level; Strategies for Police-Community Cooperation to Combat Extremism and Terrorism; The Changing Role of Law Enforcement: Policy, People and Technology; Inside the Minds of Terrorists and Extremists; and New Partnerships: Law Enforcement, the Military and Non-Governmental Organizations. Among the presenters were police chiefs from Arlington, VA, Irvine, CA, and Spokane, WA; and officials from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command; the U.S. Army War College, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and ADL and FBI professionals.
David Friedman, Director of ADL's Washington, D.C. Regional Office, and Louis Quijas, Assistant Director for the FBI's Office of Law Enforcement Coordination, delivered closing remarks.
EDITORS NOTE: Additional information on extremist groups and ideologies, and the League's partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the country, is available at ADL's online Law Enforcement Agency Resource Network, at www.adl.org/LEARN.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
The ADL is against everything conservatives stand for. Why should we give the ADL the time of day? America doesn't need the help of the ADL in our war on terror. America doesn't need anyone. I'm not about to say nice things about a group which went boinkers over Bill Clinton. Not about to praise a group which uses McCarthyite tactics and which smears conservatives.
It depends in what areas are they are involved. Just got to Google and type - Gay Lesbian ADL. I got hundreds of returns.
So please, Dennis, tell me what is you attitude to the promotion of pederasty, lesbianism, transvesticism in the name of fighting "bias, bigotry and hate" (including in the public middle schools) . Do you agree with the homosexual agenda?
And I am sure that if you dig more you will find more liberal stuff in the ADL closet. I am afraid ADL is more interested in getting FBI to prosecute "homophobes" among Christian fundamentalists than resisting Islamic extremists. Wake up!
Is this an Israeli thread? But I'm posting here. 5 times in fact. Rethink yourself Lar. Your schtick is passe and verging on the rotten. This is my helpful hint for today. Now run along and do the right thing.
The ADL hates people like me. Gunowners. ADL tried to paint TRT, a hardline gun owners group, as anti-semite. Never mind that their leader was Jewish. They were anti-semite since "They attracted the wrong people".
As far as I'm concerned, they are nothing more than a bunch of Klintonites whose religion is big government statism.
In fact, I personally think the ADL is more harsh on (gasp) "Anti-govt" people than Anti-semites.
I doubt this FBI/ADL get together was about how to grab your guns. Or any of the other ADL stuff LarLied and APole are yapping about.
The ADL has been consistantly pro gun control for decades. It's one of the many political areas they have no business getting into.
That's all on their website.
As for the comment I doubt this FBI/ADL get together was about how to grab your guns. Or any of the other ADL stuff LarLied and APole are yapping about
I hope you are right. I don't know what to expect and will be assuming nothing either way, but I do have my guard up.
... The ADL is an organization that manipulates our Jewish Citizens and the general population of America by applying the term "anti-Semitic" to any and all opposition in order to fulfill the secret agenda of Karl Marx's dream of a socialist world. The subversive ADL has worked diligently to control politicians, the domestic and foreign policy of the united States of America, and to destroy the Constitutionally guaranteed Rights of all Americans including Jewish Americans...
... This series of 8 historic broadcasts was taken in whole or in part from investigations conducted by the CAJI News Service, the Intelligence Service, Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JFPO), reports published by The Executive Intelligence Review entitled "The Ugly Truth About The ADL", and the book "Dope Inc." Please distribute copies of these transcripts to everyone you know.
Another left wing Identity Politics organization. The SWC refuses to condemn the antisemitism of Castro (who trained PLO terrorists) but has put 2nd amendment group in Utah on their "Hate List." Like the ADL, the SWC sends out a CD-ROM to law enforcement agencies listing the names of individuals and groups with whom it has political differences. Defending Jews is not the first priority of either the ADL or the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Left wing politics is.
Alan Dershowitz coordinating with the FBI, now that is a scary thought.
A civil soceity only functions well when people can speak openly. There are disputes between Jews and Christians, Blacks and Jews, Catholics and Protestants, Croats and Serbs, Japanese and Koreans in America. While we have had problems, we've overcome them because, unlike the countries everyone comes from, in America people can blow off steam without taking up arms against each other.
The ADL and the NAACP think it is better to censor thought and speech. Won't work. Worked for Tito for a while but look what happened when the lid was taken off. An explosion.
Now there is someone who should be tried by a Military Tribunal.
We do not want law enforcement to become the political arm of any civil group. Period. I don't care who it is. I support the NRA but I don't want the NRA keeping files on American citizens and sharing them with law enforcement.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is political. The center refuses to condemn their comrade Fidel Castro. But they have plenty of time to go after Catholics and gun groups.
Hmm. Armed radical who likes to "shock Jews". I am sure ADL would love to sic FBI on you :). Be careful what you wish for.
