2 Rock Guitarists Dead In Last 24 hours...Ratt's Robbin Crosby and The Ramones Dee Dee Ramone

I am posting this thread if anyone cares to add to it. I am a fan of so many different styles of music and the last 24 hours has claimed the lives of 2 men who took part in 2 totally different rock bands during 2 totally different periods of popularity.

The death's of Layne Staley from Alice In Chains was a waste. A total waste of incredible talent, gone forever due to an addiction to heroin. Dee Dee Ramone from the famous punk band The Ramones died of the very same thing a little more than a day ago. Robbin Crosby one of 2 guitarists in the 80s hard rock act RATT died from a long battle with AIDS, attributed from use of a dirty heroin needle.

Robbin was really a great guy. I saw RATT live with him and he was a great performer. He was also responsible for some of the best licks i.e. Round and Round, Wanted Man,Lay It Down, You're In Love,Back For More, Dance, Dance, Dance,Way Cool Jr., What's It Gonna Be? and much more. Hit after hit from Ratt.

He also dated everyone from Heather Locklear (who didn't?), Tawney Kitaen, and various models and actresses. He had such great talent but it all went to hell by way of the needle. A personality to light up a room. Yes a ton of people in here probably have never heard of him and will just call him another heroin junkie rock star who got what he deserved. But Robbin never denied that.

When he was on Geraldo's show about 7 yrs ago...his hands were swollen, he could not even play the guitar anymore and he had been diagnosed with HIV at the time. But he accepted it and also accepted CHRIST. He knew he played russian roulette and lost.

I am not going to gush over this anymore. I just came home from a 12 hour shift at work to have the news sent to me about his passing. I just wanted to recognize his life in some way because his music was something that was just downright...good.

Robbin is up with Christ now and his long and painful battle with AIDS is over.

R.I.P to the both of them.

"I think you kind of missed my point on that, and I'm fairly sure you did so on purpose."

You are corect. I am not dumb. But, I will never agree with legalizing illegal drugs because people misuse other substances. I agree that people must take responsibility for their own lives. And, I will go even further and say that this entire exercise is probably a waste. When people want something badly enough, they will obtain it.

And, I think that our society is far enough down the tubes that all the laws that we can pass will probably not be enough to prevent the hardcore users and others from obtaining illegal drugs.

We have become corrupted from within, and all the king's horses and all the king's men will not be enough to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

No, that would be Nena's '99 Luft Balloons'.

That is one of the most profound and poignant songs of all time. It provides a very heartfelt warning of what could happen when abstract symbolism -- in this case a balloon launch -- is used to make a point.

No one would, if it's phrased that way. The bigger question to me is whether prohibition solves more problems than it creates. You obviously think so, I have some doubts. I agree with the rest of your post.

Thank you for being civil and giving honest answers, it's been a pleasure debating with you.

People should be able to converse with one another. Civility costs nothing. It has been a pleasure discussing the issue with you.

I saw the Ramones at around that same time in Houston. They played at a fairly small place, but I was never a big Ramones fan like my friend who just loved them. They put on a good show though. I did like the Pretenders quite a bit and wanted to see them in concert, but never got to. I've liked music ever since I was a little bitty kid.

We lost a second violin a couple of years ago. Strong player, still had the stuff at 82. Buried on his own homestead. His family used a shotgun to scatter his ashes.

HEADBANGERS BALL!

I moved out in '89 when I was 19, to an area where I could get cable. (I grew up in the country.) MTV was on in my apartment 99% of the time. They played SOME good music then. On Saturday nights partying with friends, I would always try to make it home by midnight to catch the show. I didn't care much for the "death metal" crap, but there were some good bands on there that you normally wouldn't hear about, like Tora Tora. Ah - the good old days.

I saw Ratt in '88 - one of my favorite bands at the time. Sad to hear about Crosby, but I'm glad he got his life right with God before he went.

Sorry, but I too am an Alice In Chains fan. Man In The Box is one of my favorites, but I'm also quite fond of Rooster and Would. Layne Staley's death was sad news indeed.

Geez plain talk, maybe you should do some plain reading. I guess you didn't get the gist of my post. Here it is: so what if it was trash, someone liked it, and the public that did was not unwitting and the proof is they paid for it. If they didn't like it they did not have to listen or buy. That's all.

I made NO claim nor statement that they made millions, sold out Rhode Island for a concert, or that their album will end up in gold on a voyager flight to another galaxy.. I just was commenting on the #8 statement that the public that might have heard them was unwitting. Nothing else.

Oh, and as I said I bought none of the albums, nor went to a concert. Not my taste, but still it is sad that someones drug habit contributed to their death. That is always a shame.

I wished I had a chance to see SRV live. I think I was 12 when he died.

If someone you want to see comes to town, GO SEE THEM, cause you never know if they'll be back. I had a chance to go to my first Grateful Dead concert in early 1995. I turned it down, thinking "Ahhh, they tour 365 days a year. I can catch them anytime." And I had an offer of free tickets to see Frank Sinatra in the early '90s, and went out to a bar instead, because "I live in New York, so he'll give a few more concerts in Atlantic City before his voice gives out."

Yeah, I had a ticket to see Elvis Presley in Fayetteville, N.C. when he died. I would have love to see him, and I should have done it sooner.

I was also on the bummer of a Grateful Dead summer tour in 94 when so many nasty things happened.

It was ironic Jerry died when he did, like it was just a capper of a sign Rolling Thunder was finally going to stop it's run.

The Other Ones, basically the Dead survivors are playing in August and I wish I was going to be there, but I got 132 shows under my belt since I first saw them in 1972.

The Dead were a major adventure running through my life like a colorfully glowing thread. You are right; if you care, go see whomever is worth your time to listen to.

The farther you go, the rounder you get. (By the way, thank you Jerome John Garcia, wherever you are.)

But with all the warnings out there, they still geez it up don't they?

They didn't all die from drug overdoses. Maybe not even most of them. Mama Cass for instance, died from choking on her own vomit while sleeping. I don't do drugs or drink, and I've almost had this happen several times. The most recent was just last week.

Libertarians everywhere are rejoicing on behalf of these heroic corpses--these men who were brave enough to face death nose-to-nose and spit it in the eye.

Other than hating people who aren't drones like yourself,do you have a life? What would you do if drugs and Libertarians were to magically dissapear overnight, slash your wrists?

But it's just as gay to listen to this puffed up fairies, let alone to post pictures of them.

Let me see if I understand this,ok? Posting photos of somebody makes you a homosexual?

I'll bet the RATT fans on this thread were surprised when Rob Halford admitted he was a peter puffer.

As long as he wasn't going to marry my brother, why would I care?

I try not to be glad when people like this die, because I know it's wrong and I shouldn't feel that way. I would have settled for having their fingers lopped off. But this will have to do.

No matter how bad you think their problems are, your problems are bigger ones.
