As I suspected, Rush is trying to prove he's still relevant.

He apparently wasn't invited to any inauguration function and he's constantly been behind the information curve since 9/11.

Here's just one instance: Rush almost alone among major talk show hosts had not added one iota to our understanding of militant Islam as a world menace.

Does Rush just not recognize the severity of the threat, is he totally ignorant about the subject or is he just afraid of Muslims?

I don't know, but he is certainly doing a disservice to his listeners by ignoring the subject.

Rush is acting just like one of those kids in grade school whom we all knew who would begin mishaving the minute he ceased to be the center of attention.

Rush is not taking his descent into irrelevancy gracefully.

He's not taking anyone's money by force, and they're actually getting something for it.

He didn't sound too "rock solid" today. I couldn't figure out what the heck he was saying. It sounded several times like he was backing all the way down, then he'd bash Bush again because Andy Card gave Esquire magazine an interview supposedly dinging Carl Rove. Now this piece of self-pitying garbage.

It's sounding more and more like Rush got his feelings hurt by someone at the WH and is throwing a week-long tantrum.

He hasn't been as hard on Daschle as he has on GW. Something happened.

Limbaugh's smarting from getting whipped by buying the phony NYTimes Global Warming story.

It must have been a bigger hit than we thought; this is four days running.

I heard that Ari Fleisher flipped back to the "humans cause global warming" tripe.

During wartime most presidents have high approval ratings.

But presidents who have presided over failed military efforts, from Korea to Vietnam to the failed Iraqi hostage rescue aat Desert One to Somalia have not fared as well.

And the failure of Bush I to secure a clear victory with the crushing of Saddam Hussein and the occupation of Baghdad may be echoed by Bush II if another terrorist attack claims another 3000 lives.

I only wish Rush had been on the GOP Congress' case as Clinton was rolling them time after time.
That's when I quit listening . Couldn't stand him making excuses for them

At least now he is sounding better

I'm surprised at some of the reaction on this thread and others like it. FreeRepublic is well-respected as the "home-base" of conservativism. This is what Rush has been standing true to all along: conservatism. What he has deviated from, and what is the source of criticism from his listeners and from some at FreeRepublic, is the Republican Party playbook as constructed by W's advisors. The global warming misunderstanding aside (as there are several other questionable recent actions, from a purely conservative perspective, by our president), I think Rush has done a respectable job of describing his disagreements with some of the president's policies and in defending his (Rush's) opinions.

"Amazing how Rush and Alan Keyes can be 'chewed up and spit out' for remaining firm in the principled stands they take.

I disagree. President Bush's pre-9/11 approval (mid-50's) was, historically, very good. Clinton's was in the mid-40's at the same point in his presidency.

That seems mediocre to me.

Wait a minute where is that quote where Jesse Jackson called Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan Clinton, after Clinton signed welfare reform.

Oh wait a minute there isn't one.

A well-argued and well-reasoned post, my friend. Throroughly inappropriate for this thread. Haven't you heard?--if you criticize the president, then even if you agree with him on 90% of the other issues, you're a Buchanan-loving, Republican-hating, New-York-Times-reading, ersatz conservative. There are no honest disagreement anymore -- this is waahhhr. We're all Carvilles now, so get crackin'!

I think that many people take issue with Bush being demonized rather than criticized. Huge difference.

Well because I'm finding to belong to the Republican party and be called a party loyalist your principles have to change with which way the wind is blowing that day

Rush is being kicked for one issue, but it still doesn't cover up the fact that there are plenty of issues Bush has moved to the left on. Take this 'Homeland Security' speech tonight. Three weeks ago, the Democrats were adamant about how this department had to report to Congress and trying to force Ridge to testify in Congressional hearings. The administration said no, it's our perogative, and we stand by that. Three weeks later we have the second largest cabinet position that groups everything from the Secret Service to the Coast Guard to FEMA under one position and the people I see congratulating Bush on FOX are Harmon, Lieberman, Arlen Specter, and Trent Lott.

As a conservative that's just who I would want praising my decisions on TV < /sarcasm>

On Sept. 11th the era of big government ended. On June 6th (or is it 666) the era of really big government began. And with a "conservative" President in charge. Keep living your fantasy about having a conservative President freepers. I know Ronald Reagan, and George Bush is no Ronald Reagan. Do I like President Bush, yes. Do I like President Bush's politics, not much. One out of two ain't as bad as Clinton, who I didn't like as a person or a President. So I feel we are 50% better off. But with a Ronald Reagen conservative, 100% better off. I like both the person and his politics.

Quoting Jesse Jackson on Bill Clinton is somehow supporting your point?

It's one thing to have a pissing contest; it's quite another to use the hoses of those two bozos.

Rush's little defensive epistle doesn't even begin to touch on the reasons I no longer tune him in. Rush has changed and I'm not going to spend three hours of my day listening to his Bush bashing, anti-administration pontificating, or his rude treatment of callers who dare to disagree with him. As he says, it's his show and he can talk about anything he wants. It's my radio and I don't have to listen to it. Nice how that works.
