Ah, the tired old "anyone-who-thinks-immigrants-have-something-to-offer-is-a-communist" mantra. Are you a one-note Samba, Jeth? Buchanan has been wrong so often that now he is in danger of breaking the broken clock's record.

He was THOROUGHLY dishonorable in the Florida vote episode when he sided with Gore and refused to fight, along with even Nader, for his own ballts. Disgusting.

"Buchanan has been wrong so often that now he is in danger of breaking the broken clock's record. "

Then you should be able to cite at least 5 or 6 without any problem. Educate us on the issues or are you just a smearer?

I'm glad Al Gore isn't president, and Bush has done some good things in office. But some things he's done--like signing Shays-Meehan, the Patriot Act and naming the Justice Department building after the criminal Robert F. Kennedy--are disgusting.

Saying so doesn't make one unpatriotic or a "Bush-basher." If conservatives won't maintain a modicum of standards, then why bother ? Let's all hail the King and go shopping--and leave the governing to him.

right on!

So many misconceptions, so little time: Where to start?
FR is not nearly as 'kooky' as it used to be. It's been sanitized (thanks to plenty who share your pov and have been able to influence what is and is not acceptable). You must love it.
And so I intimated to ArneFufkin, but it's not yet certifiably kook-free, as your post so eloquently illustrates.
He's not obligated to toe the party line (although he mostly does) 24/7, and there is no rule that says he can't poke some fun at Bush or any other conservative whether they deserve it, or not.
And by the same token we're free to comment on what Rush says and his motivation for saying it. The First Amendmant cuts both ways.
Also: has it occurred to you that he might be using the absurd to illustrate the absurd(er)? Maybe his idea was to draw conservatives together and compel them to stand behind Bush and the GOP by giving us a dose of what is down the road.
That's just plain silly! He might do that for an hour or so, but not day after day for weeks on end.
If Rush can manipulate us so easily, what's it say about our ability to cope when it's coming from the real enemies of conservatism?
Say what? Umm… we really don't have to cope with said enemies of conservatism in any meaningful way. Freepers vote, and that's about it. Oh, a few engage in sporadic demonstrations, but that's on the fringe and inconsequential to the polity. Unless much has changed in my absence, Freepers are not the ones engaged in the hand-to-hand combat in the grass-roots political trenches.
(Rush isn't the enemy.)
Oh yeah? Well, you could have fooled me and if he isn't he a reasonable facsimile until the real article comes along.
When Bush talks like a liberal y'all tell us to watch what he does instead. When he acts like a liberal y'all defend him by quoting what he said. That strategy served the Clintonoids well too, but it only works on someone dumb enough to be a fan of a politician.
The old quidnunc would have said that statement was just plain jackass-ignorant, but the new me is a kinder gentler me so I won't say it.

Whatever, son. Did you get a warning like ol' Arne did? It would be hilarious to see you two tiptoeing around, afraid to make profane and insulting comments. FR may be changing for the better.

I'm, talking about your asinine comment on "the old quidnunc" versus "the new kinder gentler" you. I guess that's what passes for devastating wit in your circles. It fits with your pal Arne's new demeanor too.

I'll let you know when I'm interested in what the new and old you are up to.

Tut tut.

Don't get all tensed up because high blood pressure leads to strokes and strokes make you think and talk goofy and cause you to be a burden to your family.

Rush is now claiming he changed Bush's mind......the gall!!!!

He also says his talent is on loan from God and he ties half of his brain behid his back just to make it fair...

Someone in a previous post said in effect "That's entertainment".

It sure is! And at the same time it tweeks the emotionally immature, up-tight chicken-little, tin-foil hat kooks into a frenzy. Some of them call themselves, "FReepers".

Unfortunately that lowest common denominator are the ones that Rush hears from most loudly and most often.

It's embarrassing and it impedes Free Republic's effectiveness at reaching it's stated goals.

He is growing increasingly arrogant. He said that peace through victory was the Limbaugh Doctrine, that he was responsible for defeating universal healthcare, and now this. I live Rush, but c'mon!

Buchanan, when he was a kid, once caddied at the Congressional Country Club with Nixon and Eisenhower in his foresome.

Back then there was some respect for the privacy of politicians whilst golfing.

Apparently either Nixon or Eisenhower, or both, would crack dirty jokes, take leaks behind trees, all the good stuff, etc., according to his memoir.

But I don't think Buchanan plays golf.
