Hastert vs. Gephart - I remember the great 'revolution' and freshman class of 1994 - The 'Contract With America' that Gingrich touted. Most of those items were proposed, and a few even passed. Ah, those were the days. But then the freshman became incumbents. It's all been downhill ever since. Hell, we'll probably propose our OWN increase in minimum wage bill, just to make sure the Dems don't have that issue any more......*sigh*

The Administration's position is that human activity is likely mostly due to human activity.

That is giving the benefit of the doubt to what most conservatives think is junk science. It is not a neutral position, IMO.

Well, when he comes over hear and reads threads where sentiments match the emails, he probably gives them some merit.

It's pretty difficult to find a thread where all sentiments are alike, isn't it? Anyone whose acquaintance with FR is a tiny bit more than superficial will know that we are a vastly heterogenous crowd.

Go Freeper on you, Rush? No. It's your show. You can say what you want, even if it's wrong, even if it's boring, even if it bears no resemblance to what attracted me to the show ten years ago. I'd just remind you of something you've said for a long time: The First Amendment guarantees your right to free speech, but nobody guarantees your right to be heard. It's your right to speak, and my right to turn you off, as I did several weeks ago. I wish I could say I missed the show, but (at least right now) I don't.

Realistically, how much do YOU get done? Or, then again, maybe you just like to harp.

I have already gone on record numerous times that I believe Bush's neglect in protecting our borders and his apparent support for illegal immigration and amnesties for illegals is UNACCEPTABLE to me. IF GW cut taxes in half and rolled back federal spending even more but still continued to pursue reckless immigration policies I still couldn't support him.

Why? It's because excessive immigration is destroying the sovereignty of this nation. Any short term gains in the conservative agenda will be all for naught when republicans are voted out of power in every branch of government due to the burgeoning contingent of 3rd world immigrants that will, with certainty, overwhelmingly vote for democrats. See my point? All one has to do is look at the voting trends in high immigration states like CA, AZ and NM to get an understanding of how this immigration crisis will at some point make the entire conservative agenda irrelevant.

Regarding greenhouse gases, how did the earth manage to come out of the last ice age and melt thousands of miles of glaciers, snow and ice without the burning of fossil fuels? For Bush to even acknowledge that we might *possibly* affect global warming is to enter into dangerous territory

"What most conservatives think is junk science" This report was not written by conservatives, if there are any in the bureaucracy. But it's pretty interesting - in the introduction the report identifies six key issues that would need to be resolved to justify a Kyoto-type approach and notes that science has resolved none of them. There is considerable support in the report for the position that Kyoto is not justified on the science.

Irrespective of whatever effects my replies might engender, your celebatory posting of a Bush-bot robot is much more enlightning. Robots are unthinking contraptions which do whatever they're told by their masters. Most folks usually have an aversion to living and thinking like that.

As for "winning you over" thats not my intention whatsoever. I'd prefer the Republican party to be replete with individuals who are for shriking the size of govt, defending this nation and when one or both of those goals are ignored, hold their leaders to account regardless of how "dreamy" he looks. The GOP should be without mindless cheerleaders who are more appropriately found in the group think legions of the Demorat camp.

Generally, he opposes SOME of the platform, not ALL of the platform.

You work for what you can get, you push him hard on other stuff you want, or you get used to the idea of getting someone who really DOES oppose the entire GOP platform.

I wasn't speaking of Bush specifically, but he's a good example. But let's not confuse the issue here. I'm not talking about what politicians SAY about platforms and issues, as they generally SAY the right things. I'm talking about what they DO! Clinton was a Democrat who supposedly 'opposed' the GOP platform but he attempted to co-opt welfare reform and make it his own. Bush is a Republican who supposedly 'opposed' the Dem platform but he has been enacting pieces of it all year long.

I guess I could have phrased that passage better. I was merely pointing out that even in the worst administrations there is almost always some issue that a conservative may agree with. I used the clinton administration as an example of this.
