Thanks for the link. Not to make an excuse for murder, but this is an example of how child molestation really can ruin the lives of the victims.

Basically, we're still going to be expected to turn our sons over to active homosexual men in the priesthood and hope for the best. That's nohwere good enough for me. In the Boy Scouts, known homosexuals are not allowed to be in close contact with teenage boys. Also, molestation-prevention rules in the scouts include requiring that two adults be present at all times with teenage boys. Scouts has been focused on PREVENTION of homosexual molestations for many years, and their policies have been very successful. The Church needs something like this, but can't find the courage to deal with its rampant homosexual problem. While the Church remains a queer Church, we're going to be very, very careful who our sons come into contact with, and under what circumstances. Our sons will NEVER be alone with a priest; they will not spend time training to be altar boys at the church; they will not go on retreats with priests. They also will not be allowed to receive relgious training in sexual matters from priests. Basically, I don't trust the hierarchy of the Church with my sons.

I was wondering what response my post would provoke. True, Catholics cannot be accused of being "lone rangers" in the practice of faith. But NOT to defer to authority is an arrogant stance. The Church traces its authority to the Apostles and has survived throughout the centuries. The Church will continue to survive and so will its hierarchical structure. The crux is that the Church (the people of God) is a spiritual entity whose members have a personal and communal relationship with their Saviour. It is expressed in a tangible way within the outward structure of the Church. The shameful hurtful scandalous sinful behavior of some, yes -- in the hierarchy -- is reverberating painfully in the Catholic structure, and the faith of many is being shaken. But true faith is ultimately in God who is the Ultimate Authority. If followers of Christ place all their faith in human beings who make up the hierarchy, they will be disillusioned and will leave. The Church is made visible in its structure, but it is so much more than what is seen from the outside. Through its authority and structure, there are the Sacraments, worship, tradition, and opportunities for ministry and study and fellowship, all ways to become a better human being and develop a relationship with God. In my humble way I'm just trying to say that being Catholic a way of life, not merely allegiance to an oranization.

The old news comes from Zenit on April 30, 2001:
Apostolic Letter "Sacramentorum sanctitatis tutela", given "motu proprio", promulgating the norms on the more serious offenses reserved to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (30 April 2001)
At that time (30 April 2001), the Apostolic letter listed things that were considered serious offenses.
I believe I saw an English translation of this letter, but the one at the Vatican site is in Latin.

How do you know Cardinal McCarrick is a homosexual? I am still waiting for the big story that was in the news a few weeks ago - the one saying that a high ranking Cardinal would be outed by the newspapers. Possibly it was Bishop Weakland, but I don't think so.

"In my humble way I'm just trying to say that being Catholic a way of life, not merely allegiance to an oranization." Thank you for your post, you stated what being a Catholic is all about very nicely.

Does this mean the continued molestation of anyone over 18 -- e.g., students, seminarians -- and continued "consenting" homosexual (or heterosexual, though that seems to be less of a problem) relationships will still get the benefit of a blind eye? You bet it will.

Defrocking molesters? Are they serious? Who cares about whether they get defrocked or not. The victims (and society) are more interested in hard prison time - you know the kind that criminals serve...

hmmm...why did the statement stop with the sexual abuse of a "minor"? Why didn't it specify all sexual abuse or aberrant sex? WHERE DOES THE STATEMENT GIVE THE POLICY ON

UPI:The Draft Charter contains a pledge that "dioceses will report any accusation of sexual abuse of ... a minor to the proper authorities and cooperate in their investigation."

How about 1 strike for homosexuals? Oh yeah, that would defrock Bishops and Cardinals. Ooops.
I'm game for the Millstone necklace. Any takers?

There is only ONE MORE SUNDAY between now and June 13th to
PROTEST AT THE COLLECTION PLATE! ...Catholics: snip and place in collection envelope...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Archbishop Flynn,

Please enforce the 1961 provision in the Code of Canon Law that specifically calls
for barring from the priesthood those with "tendencies to homosexuality
or pederasty," the latter term meaning sex between men and boys.

The law, put forth under Pope John XXIII, one of the most liberal popes, says:
"Advancement to religious vows and ordination should be barred to those who are
afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since, for them,
the common life and the priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers."

Please also be aware that this week's donation (and all future donations) are
being re-directed to a good family-friendly cause.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...Catholics: snip and place in collection envelope...

Say... Could someone with GOOD GRAPHICS abilities create for us some
CATHOLIC PROTEST MONEY with Archbishop Flynn's picture???

"...not diagnosed as pedophiles, and who have not committed more than one act of sexual abuse of a minor..."Are these people out of their minds? Sex with a minor is pedophilia! It's also rape. And who commits pedophilia if not a pedophile?
