LADY LAKE - Gov. Jeb Bush was joined by country music stars Lee Greenwood and Larry Gatlin at a campaign rally Saturday in front of thousands of Bush fans eager to meet him.

Greenwood and Gatlin sang and exchanged witty banter from stage while Bush walked among a crowd of people along Main Street in this north-central Florida town.

Bush, who is running for re-election, told the audience that he learned from his father, former President George Bush, that promises made must be kept.

"In politics and in life, your word matters above all else," he said to thunderous applause.

Bush listed some of the promises he made in his 1998 campaign which he claimed to have kept, including more accountability in educational standards, the creation of more jobs and a lower intangibles tax.

"The right decision is not always the easiest one to make," he said, noting the elimination of affirmative action and career civil service programs were not politically popular, but they were essential.

As red, white and blue strips of paper cascaded from the roof tops of the Spanish-style buildings, Bush made his way slowly down the street as people pushed forward to shake his hand, say a few words or ask for an autograph.

"I was thrilled, so excited," said Jean Goodall, 63, of Lady Lake, who had a visor signed by the governor.

Sounds like Gov. Bush can really thrill a crowd! :)

I was born in Florida. Sometimes I wish I were a FL citizen. I would definitely vote for Jeb.

From the description (Spanish styled buildings, town square), this event took place not in the original village of Lady Lake, formerly a nationally famous speed trap, but in the planned development called 'The Villages', which is much larger than the old town, and was annexed to it not too long ago. Since them many public facilities, like a new town hall and post office have been moved to the area of The Villages.

The relationship of 'The Villages' to its vicinity of northwest Lake, northeast Sumter, and southern Marion County is much like that of Palm Coast to Flagler County. It has a public square and spanish styled buildings, and now even a hospital, none of which old Lady Lake ever had. My local cable service carries a 'The Villages' news program, and local CNN updates every half hour -- I'll be looking for the coverage of this event.

bttt for www.jeb.org. Get your yard signs and bumper stickers. Just don't put the yard signs out yet! Someone might want one for a collectible. LOL

There's a great page for Jeb's campaign web site re: undecided voters. It's short enough to print. FV

Wish I had known in advance. I live about 15 miles away, across fairly open country. The only larger towns in the immediate area are Ocala and Leesburg.

Good for JEB. I would give him thunderous applause for that statement also.

Re your post #13 - I must say, when you compare his 1998 campaign platform with what he has done in office from 1999-the present, you find he did everything he promised he said he would do. Gov. Bush is pretty straightforward.
