WASHINGTON -- Occasional grumbling by some prominent conservatives about President Bush sometimes overshadows his extremely solid support among stalwart Republicans and conservatives around the country.

Many Republicans and Democrats seem to agree that support by itself does not tilt the 2002 elections toward the GOP. Some, however, say it could offset the gains the party out of the White House -- Democrats, in this case -- historically has made in midterm elections.

Well, I'll vote for whomever I think best, no matter what their party, and if that person doesn't win, then that's what democracy is about, IMO.

Bush has done NOTHING for the religious right. Not a thing. Our Freedom OF religion is still oppression of religion. This has to change, and we want out rights back.

So can you not go to church or worship in the church of your choice since Pres Bush took office? What is he supposed to do for your Church? He is the President of the United States of America not President of a single Church or denomination. The President is the President of people of all Faiths not just Christian and includes people that have no faith.

The What has he Done for Me Crowd should be asking themselves what they have done to make their neighborhood, their community, their State, and their Country a better place to live. Get active at the local level which is the only way to influence anything. Our local State Rep here in OK just got a bill passed that every public school in Oklahoma has to observe a minute of silence each day. He took an action!

However, I have thought about this a lot. If he had vetoed, I think there is a good chance it would have been overridden, given the climate with Enron and the timidity of many of the Senate Republicans, who cannot bear to have the media fussing at them. Then we would have still had the bill and it would still be challenged in the Supreme Court, but we would have handed the Rats a campaign issue.

But then couldn't he simply have refused to sign it, on principle, and let it become law?

Hmm. I'd probably vote for Buchanan. The fact is, there aren't many distinguishing folks out there who have convinced me that they were presidential material.

I wish we could reincarnate Washington, or Teddy Roosevelt, or Reagan. I think we need better men than what is currently available.
