WASHINGTON -- Occasional grumbling by some prominent conservatives about President Bush sometimes overshadows his extremely solid support among stalwart Republicans and conservatives around the country.

Many Republicans and Democrats seem to agree that support by itself does not tilt the 2002 elections toward the GOP. Some, however, say it could offset the gains the party out of the White House -- Democrats, in this case -- historically has made in midterm elections.

Great point. Because a violation exists just don't do anything to make that constituional violation occur. Great approach. Yeah instead of actually tackling the issue of thought crimes just ignore them and maybe they will go away. Is this how you view every infringment on our rights or is this the exception? You want to know the difference between us? You might want to sweep problems under the rug to firment into something worse, I on the other hand want themeliminated altogether. Or maybe you would like to wait until America begins creating legislation that calls homophobia and xenophobia a crime. I hear that's quite popular in Europe around this time, but what the hell right, let's just sweep it under the rug. After all it won't matter until someone literally comes to your house to tell you your right to believe in something has been surrendered.

TAXES ? Are you for real ? Go read more books, dear ; or better yet, read what those who have actually lived through the last 50 years , write.

Under Reagan and Bush, taxes have come way down. That isn't a " right " ( to be free of taxation ) , nor a freedom that has been " lost " in the past 70, 50, or 20 years.

In all actuallity, you are just blowing smoke and ranting and raving ; throwing a childish temper tantrum. You act as though you invented the wheel, and none of us know anything at all. Yes, that's right, and only people your age know what's best. ROTFLOL ! Grow up .

I love constitutional scholars. Tell me, in your learned opinion Mr. Chief justice, what is UNCONSTITUTIONAL about building permit?

Where did I say to be free of taxes? I'm glad your in the buisness of putting words in other peoples mouths. Why don't you actually read what is written before attacking someone else. Taxes have been added over the past 100 years ever increasingly. At one time their was no inflation in our system and this allowed people to succeed in life without carrying the weight of big brother on their shoulders. Now inflation occurs slightly after every increase in minimum wage there-bye destroying the chance for anyone to actually get ahead when starting out. Someone has some growing up to do in the department of comprehension and it sure isn't me.

Weaver is a coward that sacrificed his wife and son for a gun rap and is quite happy and rich as a result.

I can't speak to other comments on this thread or others that you have made ... but I can speak to this one.

Randy Weaver is neither a coward or happy about what occurred up there in Northern Idaho.

His wife and son were not "sacrificed" in the least ... they were killed by an out of control governmental agency in an abomination every bit as awful as Waco ... only the death toll was smaller.

I have corresponded and spoken directly with these people. Your assertions are way off the mark. With respect to what transpired at Ruby Ridge, and with regards to the people involved, you comments about a "coward", "sacrificing his wife and son" and "happy because he got rich" (which he did not) are terribly misinformed about the situation, the man, his wife and his son IMHO. He would gladly do almost anything honorble to have avoided losing Vickie and Sammy ... but the government killed them ... and then burned their bodies up on that hill.

My view of Randy Weaver is that he is a solid, honorable and good man who would not deny his faith or bow down to the government in violation of his oath as a former member of the special forces. Everything about what the government did in approaching and handling Randy in Idaho from the get-go was the antithesis of those qualities.

Sorry to interject ... but having some personal knowledge of the people, I had to.

The fact that GOVERNMENT interviens with PRIVATE PROPERTY. Do the words PUBLIC and PRIVATE mean anything to you? The government has no right to tell people what they can do with THEIR land. That is why the government is PUBLIC and why my property is MY PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF LAND. Get it?

So you going to just dodge the hate crimes bullet altogether?

No, tpaine isnt 100 % correct. You and he aren't quite as knowledgeable as you both assume yourselves to be.

As for some supposed " rights ", which you claim to have lost ... you can't lose that which you never had. There are some very good reasons for some of the things you chaffed about .

I have corresponded and spoken directly with these people.

He said, out of his OWN moth, when asked if he would have done ANYTHING differently, "well I may not have sold the gun(s) but other than that NO!". He had 18 months to face the warrant and decided to "stick it to the man". However when he was the only gun left standing he limped out and into a 3.1 million dollar settlement, Don't give me the crap that he is no coward, when his sorry butt was the last on the line he gave up like a school girl. Yes the Feds reacted stupidly BUT that does NOT erase the 18 months when the local sheriff was trying to get his dumb ass of that mountain.

Glad to get some truth in here. You ready to accept truth yet Texas? Or you going to ignore this guy as well. You talk about me saying I'm always right well look who's talking.

I'm no constitutional scholar but I know the difference between PRIVATE and PUBLIC. I also know the difference between federal assaults on innocent people and federal assaults on criminals. And I know that puting hate crimes under the rug as something to forget about won't make anyone in the future any more free. But hey, that's just from this stupid 19 year old who knows nothing compared to your infinite wisdom over all.

I lost the right to learn other theories besides evolution in school. I lost the right to learn about the real history of my country.

When I own a house I will lose my rights of property to a taxing government where even if I pay for the house should I stop paying taxes on it the government will take it.

Oh Good Grief ... I just knew I should have walked away from this computer

When the hell has the government stopped you from learning anything .. God gave you a brain .. USE IT

Sounds like you went to a public school ..

Gee .. guess who paid for YOUR education .. Yep that would be us the taxpayer

Don't like the public schools .. go to a private school or better yet .. try home schooling

As for the property taxes .. believe it or not .. but yep that had property taxes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when in our Founding Father's Day

Want an example ... try this .. Yep they had stupid taxes back then also

Window Tax

Window Tax
This tax was introduced in 1696 as a replacement for the Hearth Tax and was often levied with the House Tax. It was repealed in 1851 when it was replaced by House Duty. The tax was worked out from a scale of bands based on the number of windows in the house. In 1696 all house were charged at 2s, properties with 10-20 windows paid 4s and those with more than 20 windows paid 8s. In 1747 the charges were: 10-14 windows at 6d per window, 15-19 windows at 9d, and 20 or more windows at 1s. By 1825 houses with less than 8 windows became exempt. The taxpayer was usually the occupier rather than the owner and they often attempted to camouflage or block up the windows to avoid payment. The number of windows is not normally stated in the return.

I said they are ridiculous but that does not seem to mean anything to you. Tell, who do you want to assault that the hate crime laws are holding you back from?
