In soccer you've got all the ingredients for a huge surge in popularity in the U.S., but it has never come around. You've got more television exposure than football had 30 years ago, an influx of immigrants, and unparalleled popularity among kids.

I contend that soccer simply isn't popular because most people see it as a sport for immigrants and kids. I understand that baseball has other issues, but the decline in baseball's popularity has mirrored the increase in foreign-born major-league ballplayers.

That and the fact that the players are a bunch of crybabies who threaten to strike if the owner looks at them the wrong way. Baseball is constantly shooting itself in the foot.
