I remember tornado warnings as a young child in Northern Illinois. The town warning system would sound and us little girls and parents would scramble to the crawlspace. Frightening.

We have those all over the city and then we have practice warnings once a week. Being in a tornado is a very terrifying experience even if it touches down a few miles from you. One of the oddest things I have ever seen after a tornado was a house with only one wall left standing and it was floor to ceiling bookshelves and the books were still in them. Simply amazing!!! We have wonderful weather people with all kinds of Doppler radar systems and they stay on the air as long as they are needed. Some people here complain about their knocking their favorite show or a sports event off the air but I had rather be warned than be watching something with no idea what is going on. MamaB
