The American hunter should also take a lesson from Britain - during the campaign to secretly eliminate all guns, the government promised that no one would take away hunting rights from citizens. The result is that British hunters must use hunting clubs, and all weapons are stored at the club. Al Gore has made the same sneaky promises - he smiles and tells democrat working men that "no one is going to take your hunting rights away". Like all liberal democrats, he knows the secret goal of eliminating all home weapons. (Liberal democrats first need to disarm us - otherwise they won't be able to keep raping young women - Clinton, Kennedy, Chris Dodd, etc.)

Even an earth worm only has to bump against an electrode 200 times to learn to avoid the pain. How long do you think it will take the English to learn the pain of being defenseless? I suppose the politicians are relatively safe. The people of England are apparently content to be sheep. Maybe they never will learn...

What you don't realise is that the British public are subjects not citizens. In Britain the ruling classes have always disapproved of common people owning firearms. They perceived it, and probably still do, as being a threat to the government's power. The British government has been eroding the rights of Britons to own firearms for 80 years. The first round of gun controls came after the Russian revolution, because the ruling classes were worried about a communist insurrection.

As far as the British government is concerned only it has the right to enforce the law. In the USA, there is such a thing as a citizen's arrest, whereas people can get in trouble in Britain for defending themselves too aggressively. Carrying any kind of weapon for self defence has also been illegal in Britain since the 1950's.

You are wrong to blame the British people, they have no power to influence the authoritarians. Blame the British government who are only interested in safe guarding their own position and doing what appears to be politically expedient.

Julie, it may be a cold day in Hell, but if you move on to the "printer friendly version" page there is a strange change. The subtitle which on the main article page reads: "The evidence suggests that gun control has not made England a safer, fairer society " has been rewritten to read: "The evidence suggests that gun control has made England a safer, fairer society ".

I ask you, is it reasonable to believe someone RETYPED the article and accidentally omitted the word "not"? Or is it more reasonable to believe they copied the article, removed HTML formatting, pasted it on the "printer friendly page" and then deliberately removed the 'offending' word?

I had not heard about the "anti-fortification" business. European governments seem obsessed with the importation of violent third-world barbarians, and determined to force victimization on the native populace. The logical next step is to outlaw knowledge of the martial arts. As Frederick Bastiat said: "when law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense (or in this case, his life as well), or losing his respect for the law. These two evils are of equal consequence, and it would be difficult to choose between them."

"This sea change in English crime is indicative of government policies that have gone badly wrong."

The very definition of when Liberal-Socialism takes control; plain-'n-simple.

...English, American, or otherwise.

The myth that government is going to protect you is the biggest lie of all; in fact the evidence is to the contrary.

When the government is finally confronted with this, their answer is "better for you to die, than defend yourself. Society is harmed less by your death than by you defending yourself. It's just the price 'we' have to pay for living in a civilized society. Have a nice day."

Since it is the Boston Globe I would tend to think that some left wing extremist decided to make the change to fit their own view rather than the facts.
