Oklahoma Sen. Don Nickles, the number two Republican in the Senate, said Saturday that he was "furious" at his colleague, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, over comments she made last week suggesting that President Bush could have prevented the 9-11 attacks.
Then, in a warning to Clinton and other Democrats who have focused exclusively on 9-11 intelligence failures during President Bush's first eight months in office, Nickles added, "If we're going to have an investigation, we should have an investigation of why we didn't respond strongly to previous acts of terror."
"I'm pretty critical of the previous administration," the leading Republican explained during a lengthy interview with his homestate newspaper, the Oklahoman. "They dropped the ball in the war on terrorism. They never engaged in the war on terrorism."
Nickles has already begun laying the groundwork for a Clinton-9-11 terror probe, showing the newspaper prepared charts listing five terrorist attacks on the U.S. during the Clinton administration, not counting the Oklahoma City bombing.
Juxtaposed with the charts' graphics, the Oklahoma conservative has inserted quotes from President Clinton promising a strong and forceful response. But, said Nickles, those promises were never followed by effective action.
The Republican leader complained that U.S. facilities at home and abroad were attacked repeatedly during the Clinton years but, "we didn't do anything about it."
He cited the 1998 al Qaeda bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa, the 1996 Khobar Towers military barracks bombing and the attack two years ago on the U.S.S. Cole.
In light of the Clinton administration's failed record on terrorism, Nickles said that Mrs. Clinton's attack on President Bush was "very inappropriate."
However all of us need to be cautious and charitable. I don't think BILLDO AND SHRILLERY have earned any charity--but many of us haven't earned that much either. And the charity is not so much for their benefit as for our own.
ALL OF US REAP WHAT WE SOW, HARVEST WHAT WE PLANT.
None of us could survive long a searchlight exposing every detail of our "deceitfully wicked hearts" of which we are all party. . . who can know his own heart save by Holy Spirit. Who can stand any mirror except for the covering and cleansing of Christ's Blood.
I'm not intending to hold those responsible less responsible. I'm merely observing that all of us "MISS THE MARK" (as in an archery bull's eye on the archery target) [the original meaning of the word "sin."
ALL OF US NEED GRACE, FORGIVENESS, Jesus.
Let the guilty traitors to the U.S. Of A. bear the reaping for what they've sown--all the more so for their lack of owning up to such.
But let us be cautious as we identify their outrageously destructive flaws. Flip blackwashing is probably ill advised.
And maybe that'll happen with this present POTUS' blessings.
Because methinks Mr. Bush has just about had-it with the sycophant SOBs in the Leftist's Lamestream -- the Liberal-Socialist Lamestream who played such an important role in the cover-up & protection of Clintigula the First -- the one & only Sink Emporer our Republic ever had.
That is, if what happened in France means anything? ;^)
...& hopefully idiots *like* David Gregory will keep up their BS; &, precipitate their own demise.
No. I'm upset because you have nothing to counter the two arguments I made so you are ACTING just like a democRAT. It is sad that so many Republicans are now putting party over principle just like the democRATS did. Question ... what will you do when you finally realize that nothing is being done to even investigate ANY of the crimes the democRATS committed? What excuse or rationalization will you use then?
If you can't stand on your own convictions - then you're not very convinced of them. I believe what I believe and if you don't agree - oh well!!
But what if those beliefs are counter to the facts? That is the complaint we had about many democRATS ... they based their opinions on BELIEF and not facts. Sounds to me like some Republicans are now doing that too. What will you do when you finally realize that nothing was ever being investigated? Will you just say "Oh well" and move along too? If so, then you are no different than the democRATS we all claim to despise.
You think Bush is avoiding prosecuting the Clintons. I'm not convinced of that. So, we don't agree!
But I give you facts that support my opinion. All you have is belief ... just like the democRATS.
You're entitled to your opinion, I just don't agree with you.
How does it feel to be on the receiving end of what we've done to democRATS for so many years. Because they can't argue the facts, they RUN. That's why we own talk radio. That's why we will own forums like this. Or at least those who are willing to discuss and debate the facts will own it. If Republican's begin acting like democRATS I expect they'll end up having to do just what democRATS do ... RUN. That won't go over very well with the many lurkers who stop by to read the threads on this forum. Think about the implications of that come election time.
However, your actions are much more liberal than mine - because liberals are much more pushy and require that others think like they do or they start calling names.
Garbage. The only accusation I've made is to suggest you are behaving like a democRAT ... because you demonstrably are. I don't require that you think like me but I do require that you back up your arguments with facts if you intend to win or draw a debate with me. If you can't, I will point that out to those reading this.
If I don't agree with you, I don't make a federal case out of it, and I don't require you to believe as I do.
My we are getting defensive. As I said, it doesn't feel very good to be called to task for arguing like a democRAT, does it. THAT is why Bush and the GOP need to deal with the crimes the democRATS committed and not move-on as appears to be the case. Then you won't have to defend the indefensible.
And ... I'm not accusing you of having any ulterior motive just because you don't agree with me - like "being a move-on" type of person.
But it is quite logical to suggest that if people are willing to ignore crimes as serious as murder and mass murder, and base that ONLY on belief that their party wouldn't do such a thing, then they are either democRATS trying to keep those matters from being investigated or Republicans who for wrong reasons don't want the pot stirred either. There has to be a reason and I don't for one moment believe it is because you are ignorant. You clearly are not so why do you put so much "faith" in one man after we've seen such men disappoint us time and time again?
Personally, I don't care what you think.
But you do care what those reading this discussion think ... or you wouldn't concern yourself with my observation ... and you know that by not addressing the facts you do indeed come across as debating like a democRAT.
NO, I don't!
And ... you're trying to "win" this "debate". I'm not!
NO, I don't! And ... you're trying to "win" this "debate". I'm not!
Then what is your purpose here? You are the one who opened this "debate" by telling me to stop whining and claiming that the Bush administration is investigating. When I challenged you to provide ANY indication that such investigations have or are taking place, you can't do it. But you keep coming back with a response in an obvious attempt to get around that fact. If you are not trying to "win" this "debate", then what are you trying to do? Are you trying to keep people from looking any further at the facts? Are you trying to make people believe that Bush is doing his duty where seeing to it that our laws are enforced is concerned? If you don't care what I write, why are so interested in counteracting what I wrote?
