May 26, 2002 -- Investigators believe Chandra Levy was lured to her death by someone she knew or slain by a predator who methodically stalked her, police sources said yesterday.

Evidence collected at the spot where her remains were found points away from her being killed in a random attack while she was jogging, the sources said.

Post 617 - we've heard Luray is a big area for bikers. There are mountain roads they like to bike in groups. Condit had a motorcycle and ties to bikers.

I never bought the theory about disposing of her body in Luray Caverns. It is crawling with tourists.

Extremely unusual. His record was one of almost never doing that--missing a vote, I mean.

Post 611, re the Klingle Mansion: "Pierce-Klingle Mansion (NR) is located in the park at 3545 Williamsburg Lane. This large stone farmhouse was originally constructed by Issac Pierce in 1823 with later additions. The house now serves as the headquarters for the superintendent of Rock Creek Park."

"...but I am just lazy posting the full articles, besides I like to read from the actual website where the story is published."

Nothing wrong with reading them on the original website, but when they expire the article, it will disappear HERE at FR as well. That's why we like posters to post the full article when possible - it creates an archive that survives server failures, article expiration, etc.

Old Lady, I completely agree that she made demands on him-- pregnant or not. See post #614...

Way back when the Hanssen spy thing was going on someone speculate the Gary might be "selling information" There was even a small list of his income and expenses, and of the committees and materials to which he had access ..... Even did a comparison of both of their double lives.
Having family that works in classified material, I'm aware of how much the FBI "Checks up" on them. Didn't Anne Marie Smith and Rossi both say the FBI already knew about them, before their actual first contact? Plus, the FBI had 33 other people on their list of "relationships". The FBI may know a lot more than we give them credit, remember for national security reasons they plea bargained with Hansen in order to keep secrets. I think we can expect similar things here.

He probably has. But he was full young (only 20) so I think he was still on the learning curve. Rape definately the goal for him...

Of course, anything's possible. I was just struck back then with Mrs. Levy's certainty that Chandra was not pregnant. And I don't think it was because she just didn't want to consider the possibility. She truly felt it was a wrong lead to follow.

Post 625 and earlier posts about Chandra's demands: I agree. We know Condit was obsessive about secrecy (his dating rules, and lies and evasions when questioned), and we know he was an oddball for many other reasons. We know Chandra was obsessed with him because she kept checking her answering service for some huge number of times (48?? How did people find this number out?) for a message from him.

I think it most likely she was either pregnant and wanted support and a permanent relationship with him (marriage?), or she got upset with him and made other demands. Because he was totally obsessive about secrecy he flipped out.

I also think he did it himself, without a lot of planning, because of the place her body was found and the knotted leggings. I doubt a paid hitman would have left her in Rock Creek Park.

Yes, it is. Last summer, my husband and I visited the area on our way back from vacation because we were curious about the McDonald's from where Condit called AMS. While eating lunch, the restaurant was filled with bikers. There are lots of tourists down there, but there are also lots of secluded areas. If he had known the area well, he could easily have dumped her there. I thought he had. Now that her body has been found, I really don't think he is the killer, although I think he knows or suspects who is.

Post 628: I understand what you are saying, but I think the pregancy thing can't be taken either way unless proven by forensics.

Mrs. Levy is, after all, Chandra's mother, and would want to believe the best about her daughter unless proven otherwise.

Thanks for the reminder. I hope you are correct and I suspect that you are!

It just occurred to me that maybe the FBI knew where the body was all along. They just didn't "FIND" it so they would have more time to get the goods on CONDIT for other things. Sort of give him enough rope to hang himself..... .....Now that's a thought!
It would explain why the "grid search" MISSED the body.

I do believe Chandra was "blackmailing him" The big news could have something to do with that. Wasn't there talk at one time that Chandra's "boyfriend" was an FBI guy? She certainly wanted to work for the FBI and may have seen herself as a "sleuth"!

Actually, knife and knotted leotard "go together" - in profiles of sexually motivated criminals, the ones that like to use knives to terrorize like to bind up their victims. Just because he didn't get the opportunity to tie up the two known victims, doesn't mean he wouldn't have if he had been able to get the first on off the path, or the second one (which he succeeded in getting of the path) hadn't gotten away when she spotted an opportunity.

He did not run away from her, she escaped and he was not able to catch her.

"He didn't even cut any of them"

That's because the knife was used to subdue and terrorize. He didn't want to harm them - yet. In profiles of sexually motivated criminals, the ones that use knives like that also like to bind their victims.

Post 633 - I think Chandra wasn't found until now because of plain old incompetence. They didn't search that area because it "was too remote". DUH.

Seems you would start with the most remote areas and work your way in to civilization.

That's what I thought. Interesting. The day he ended up in Luray on a rainy evening was another day in which he missed votes. If memory serves me correctly, he voted early, then was summoned with a message from an aide and then missed the rest of his votes that day. If his history is to not miss votes unless he's off taking care of loose ends regarding the CLevy murder, then there is apparently something here that needs investigation.

or she got upset with him and made other demands...\

Wasn't she upset he couldn't get her a permanant job after her internship was belatedly discovered to have expired? She was said to have been quite distressed at the prospect of returning to CA with no carreer plans. I suspect she felt doubly hurt and betrayed by him. He not only couldn't or wouldn't "make things happen for her" but possibly had an invisible hand in the discovery that her internship went on 6 months longer than it was supposed to in an effort to send her home. She might have felt scorned as his lover and mentor as well.

I heard on the radio before noon on the 22 that 'A' body that 'MIGHT' be Chandras had been found. Yet he stayed & voted at 8:30pm on the 22? If he knew it was going to be Chandra he stayed around & voted for at least 8 hours.
