May 26, 2002 -- Investigators believe Chandra Levy was lured to her death by someone she knew or slain by a predator who methodically stalked her, police sources said yesterday.

Evidence collected at the spot where her remains were found points away from her being killed in a random attack while she was jogging, the sources said.

We've been saying on here for a year she was lured, wonder why it's taking the cops so long to figure that one out.

CHANDRA KILLING NOT A RANDOM ATTACK: D.C. DETECTIVES By NILES LATHEM and ANDY GELLER

Investigators believe Chandra Levy was lured to her death by someone she knew or slain by a predator who methodically stalked her, police sources said yesterday.

Evidence collected at the spot where her remains were found points away from her being killed in a random attack while she was jogging, the sources said.

Detectives are working on two theories:

* That Chandra was going to meet someone she knew.

* That she was a victim of a predator who carefully planned the attack and may have followed her for hours or days beforehand.

"It is our belief that she did not go there alone. Someone lured her," said Billy Martin, the Levy family lawyer.

The remains of Levy, a 24-year-old federal intern and mistress of Rep. Gary Condit, were found Wednesday in a remote, heavily wooded section of Rock Creek Park in northwestern Washington.

Cops found a knotted leotard next to the remains, leading them to believe she was tied up before she died.

Martin, family members and friends said Chandra didn't like to jog outdoors, preferring to use the treadmill at her gym.

She also was ultra-security-conscious and would never have gone into a remote area of the park by herself, they said.

In addition, the spot where she was found is four miles from her apartment building and there are no real jogging paths there. It is not easily accessible by car.

Nor does it appear she was familiar with the area.

Before she vanished on May 1, 2001, she looked on the Web for directions to the Klingle Mansion, a mile from where she was found.

"She was looking on a Web site to get specific directions to a specific place, and it's possible that some kind of meeting was set up or they lured her there," a police source said.

The knotted leotard leads detectives to theorize she was tied up and forced to walk to the heavily wooded area - and killed there.

Police haven't ruled out the possibility she was slain elsewhere and dumped at the spot, but note it would be hard to dump a body in daylight.

Among the people who may be questioned again are Condit, a California Democrat, and Ingmar Guandique, convicted in February of assaulting two female joggers in Rock Creek Park after Levy disappeared.

Court papers described Guandique, 20, who is serving 10 years in a federal prison, as a predator who used the park as a hunting ground.

A memorial service for Chandra will be held Tuesday in her hometown of Modesto, Calif.

Thank you, Brigette. Nice post. Now if only the Washington D.C. homocide detectives can finger the b*$&ard who murdered her.

Washington police are incompetent. Had they searched the area with dogs long ago they would have found her and had much more to work with. I have little expectation of this ever being solved by these buffoons. Stranger things have happened I suppose…

Thanks I already knew that, but I am just lazy posting the full articles, besides I like to read from the actual website where the story is published. But if someone wishes to post the full story after me that is welcomed and great. Thank you for doing it!

I am not normally a big post starter, but if I see a story that has been up for awhile on a news website and I do not see it posted here, then I may start the post on it.

The story does not really say much that most of us already did not know, but I think the DC cop's are looking like fools again and they are trying to release what little they can. Gee... I wonder if they are having a hard time locating Condit also? LOL... ( I think they already know who killed her and they just need the forensic results back, besides it is a holiday weekend.

So right. It took the DC police 90 days after Chandra's "disappearance" to decide they needed to "ask" to search Condits apartment.

I don't buy any of the conspiracy theories. If Levy had been "lured" outside by someone, she would have taken her purse or wallet--it's inconceivable that she would have left them in her apartment. Chances are, she went for a jog, got too close to a psycho, and game over.

Of course, she could have been lured out, killed, and then the killer went back to her apartment and put her purse back. But if you're going to wander that deep into the Conspiracy Dork Forest, you'd better buy a lot of tinfoil to put inside your hat.

Oh come now, are we to believe that a person could plan the murder of another human being? Why not suggest that people abuse their kids. Pshaw!

Wonder who did it?

Except that we already know that Condit required just precisely that as a precondition for meeting his paramours.

If she did a search on a map engine, wouldn't they be able to tell EXACTLY where she was suppose to meet somebody from her History?

I still don't buy it. There are way too many dots to connect, and too many "could have" and "might have" suppositions in all of this. The downside of being caught for murder is too much, and the upside too little, even for a congressturd. Sure Condit had some motive--I just don't think it was enough motive. Most often, the simplest solution is the best.

On the other hand, I don't think Lee Harvey Oswald was the only shooter...

Lord, I hadn't thought of him........and yes, I am up early! Babysitting my granddaughter and she got up early......now she is back asleep and I am wide awake!

The former intern's remains were found under thick underbrush far from a path, which indicates her body was placed there, sources said. The remains were found on a hillside above the creek that runs along Broad Branch Road NW.

I heard somebody saying today that they found her 3 footballs field BELOW the only access path/trail.

Not if she deletes her history file on shutdown. I do... but with all of the hidden logs on computers these days, you'd think that somewhere the infor was still retrievable. Depends on if she typed in the exact address or not, not too likely if she was going to meet him in a park, where there aren't exactly any addresses.
