You can say that again! We are still so paranoid that it was "right in our backyard", we think we can smell it daily. The valley smells bad enough (haha), but add something like that and you smell weird chemicals everywhere you go.

Your in the Valley? If so, I hope your secession from LA is successful. That will make my day....

Do ya think they'll probably trace this back to the tail rudder bolts being fatigued ?

I agree, you are probably right.
To: Joe Hadenuf
Yes, that would be pretty outstanding if it succeeds... The one thing I'm uncertain about is if the people IN L.A. are able to vote on this as well. Whether THEY think the valley can secede or not. I would hope not!
As for "my" secession... haha - well we're moving out of the valley ASAP so I'm not sure if I'll still be able to vote on it, but I hope so.

A gas grill is a very effective bomb. I have never understood why anyone goes to the trouble of buying fertilizer and diesel fuel to make a bomb. Liquid propane gasifies to about 1400 times its liquid volume. It only takes about 2.1% of propane gas in air to be an explosive mixture. I would estimate that 2.1% of the cubic feet of the average three BR house is 400 cubic feet. And, let's say that the liquid contents of a gas grill propane tank is at least 1 cubic foot. By the time the grill has discharged a third of its contents inside a closed-up house, the house would contain an explosive mixture capable of being set off by a pilot light, a light switch, or a refrigerator cycling on. This means one of the gas grill tanks is capable of blowing most homes off the block on which they are situated.
I worked for a company one time that had a lot of salesmen with company cars. That was in the days when two-way radio transmitters were in the trunk. One of the salesmen put an outboard motor in the trunk of his car. It had a gasoline tank on it and gasoline leaked out and evaporated (gasified). He was driving down the road about 60 mph and keyed his radio. The explosion blew the whole rear end of the car off. We calculated that a spoonful of gasoline in the trunk of a car will provide an explosive mixture.
It is interesting to note that many times when something does not blow up, it is because the mixture is too rich to explode. This has saved the lives of a lot of ignorant people.
The reason I know about this stuff is because I was a safety person in the oil and refining industry.

Hope that Chaska fire is not near the new Home Depot. I've waited a long time to have that store close to home.

Joe was a real source of strength for us all during this time of fear, confusion and chaos. He's like family ... you know that one uncle ...
We're lucky to have him. Joe, thanks just for being friendly old you.

No Ma'am. The inferno looks like it will only make the lumber yard. Nothing to burn there! ;^)

I found this story at www.firehouse.com: (actual story link is here:
LA: Jerry's Famous Deli Damaged by Fire). I guess it didn't "burn down", but I'm not sure if it's open...
Los Angeles; IN BRIEF / STUDIO CITY;
Jerry's Famous Deli Damaged by Fire
Copyright 2002 / Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Times...05/19/2002
From Times Staff Reports
A kitchen fire caused $ 500,000 in damage Saturday to Jerry's Famous Deli in the 12600 block of Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
About 55 firefighters battled the 8:30 a.m. blaze, which was reported after a passerby saw flames on the roof. Humphrey said the fire started accidentally in the kitchen and may have spread through the ventilation system.
One employee suffered minor burns to his hands, officials said. Damage to the building was estimated at $ 250,000, and damage to the contents was another $ 250,000, Humphrey said.
