Man... that's one big gas grill! If they have a large propane tank on it - that stuff is deadly. Who know where they kept the grill. It could set off a chain reaction.

I heard a few minutes ago that they were checking other apts. in that area as well. They said they were looking to see if anyone else was injured. Sounds like to me they may be looking for anything unusual.

I know when the grain elevator exploded near Wichita, Kansas it felt like an earthquake miles away.

"LAPD Reporting Additional Explosions in CA"
Whats the latest on that? I only heard the Fox guy mention that once. Is that additional explosions in CA generally or within the apartment that is on fire?

Encino is heavily Jewish. Seems suspicious...

As a child, we lived next to a welding shop that burned one night. As the bottles of oxygen and acetylene(sp) cooked off, they fired off like missiles, they did not explode. It was an awesome sight as a kid to see those things fire up in the air and land half-a-block away. One of them went through the wall of the welding shop, and through the wall and roof of my dad's machine shop, landing accross the street. Like I said, it was a great sight as a kid, but scares the hell out of me when I think about it now.

Not too long ago they said to be careful of apartment buildings...they were a potential target. I considered it "duh" information at the time, but I have to say I am going to keep my eye on this story...keep me pinged.

Did I see the MSNBC list Encino as being below San Diego? Anyone else see that? LOL!

The explosion would have destroyed the whole block if not more - if it was a spent fuel rod.

3 jets in formation( didnt know what kind but assumed some kind of fighter jets) flew over indy today As I recall there is always a flypast over the track before the race (I know there was one when I was at the US Grand Prix in 2000) so probably just practice. I do recall hearing that they've declared a rather large no-fly zone over the track for this weekend, though.
Maybe it's just because I'm a racing fan, but I've had a uncomfortable feeling about the race (this weekend, not the race in general) for the past little while. Hope I'm wrong.

Spent fuel rods would be used to make dirty bombs. The explosion on a dirty bomb would be the product of the explosive that they used to detonate it... Definitly not related.

Breaking News....MSNBC ...Nuclear Regulatory Commission is ordering higher security at Nuke Plants that house spent fuel rods...Follow up
the FBI does not have any evidence that terrorist activity is to blame for the heighten state of alert. FBI sources are blaming a radical cult group of fundamentalist grannies armed with plastic knitting needles and fingernail clippers. FBI is responding with a crack team of security specialist comprised of federal airport screeners.

Looked like a thrown together stucco complex to me. Used to live in the Valley. Our house was kind of thrown together with a little siding slapped on the outside.
I hope it's not terrorism but some lady smelled chemicals that she didn't think were gas or oil smells; kind of sulphur like.
