Gas grill propane containers might explain it.Yup, and oxygen, as another said, if this was an old-folks place.

If this was a terrorist act, I would've expected it to happen in the middle of the night. It doesn't make a lot of sense to cause an explosion at 11AM on a weekday, when few people are around
Yeah but holiday weekends around here usually start on Thursday afternoon. =/

I think JustAnAmerican is simply
hearing about more of these incidents. They've always been going on but prior to 9/11 weren't considered newsworthy enough for anything more than local coverage.
As for airliners crashing, the truth is that accident rates are such a tiny fraction of what they were even two decades ago that the few that do occur get a disproportionate amount of ink.

Now being declared a crime scene, probably routine.

And this is looking more like an accident of some typeHow could it look "more like an accident" when you were absolutely certain at the outset it was an accident ?
To: areafiftyone
Of course, any natural gas lines to the building might have been impacted by the explosion.

The lady talking to FNC said that the sound of the explosion was like the sonic boom you hear when the space shuttle returns to earth, only it was worse.
When the shuttle returns here in Florida, it shakes our entire house and scares the heck out of you if you aren't expecting it.

According to FOX, fire is now getting under control.

Yeah, really. If you want to do a terrorist attack, do it in the evening on a weeknight when the max number of people will be home.

oops - CNN going to Talk Back Live - the official end of the story's urgency.

Fire is getting under control they said. Hopefully they can find out soon. Remember the explosion in New York weeks ago. It turned out to be chemicals. So this could very well be gas or propane from a barbecue.
To: Joe Hadenuf
Now being declared a crime scene, probably routine. I believe all fires are assumed to be arson until ruled otherwise.

Hmm lets see, more major train derailments in one year then in 10, more buildings exploding in one year then in 10, more planes blowing up, crashing in one year then in last ten, yup sounds like just a bunch of coincidences to me (/sarcasm off). Sounds to me like a lot of covering up. But what do I know.
The big difference is that before, explosions and fires and derailments were normally just local news items. Something had to be really big to make the national news. With 24/7 coverage of cable news and general jitters about terrorism now EVERYTHING is a national news story.
If every car accident were a national news item, it would be such a flood that there would probably be a sudden push to ban cars.

TV People are panic buttons anyway. They should wait until they know for sure. It's their job to generate interest!

You are right and ratings!

Per MSNBC, LAFD has
NOT entered the building complex yet; LAPD's Bomb Squad is en route to the scene, "Code 3" - anyone familiar with LAPD radio codes?
Also, one unconfirmed fatality.

Reporter talking on MSNBC said it felt like an earthquake and he said that there were no Gas Co. people on the scene.
