State Rep. Mae Beavers faces a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe into whether she falsified her application to run for election in 2000 by misstating her address.

Wilson County District Attorney Tom P. Thompson Jr. said a public records search for Beavers shows she used two addresses - one within her 57th House district for voter registration and nominating petitions and one within the county but outside her district on tax and loan documents. The investigation centers on whether she improperly claimed to reside within her election district.

Well, this is one of those things where the variables are kind of similar and it's easy to get your wires crossed: 7th vs 17th, Beavers vs Blackburn. I know that Beavers and Blackburn occupy a very similar niche in my mind -- probably because they're both fine conservative ladies who do a great job of representing the conservative cause in our great state -- and I can see how one could get information from their two races intermingled. I can certainly imagine myself doing so!

Anyway, thanks once again for the info (and corrections!) you've provided. With no "fall back position" in the case of Beavers getting stung by this latest issue, it looks to be especially important that it doesn't stick, or that she and her folks are able to effectively deflect it or neutralize it. Tennesse really would be much better off without Rochelle.

I appreciate the link. It looks like this thing hinges on the difference in legal residence and personal residence, and according to the article, it is legal residence that is important here. The article mentions that the election law is pretty loose in the way it defines legal residence, and Beavers' lawyer sounds confident that Beavers' apartment falls within that definition. He even goes so far as to call the contention that it doesn't, "absurd". Hopefully this is the case.
