On a the level of morality, they're both equally bad. On the level of psychological damage, there isn't a blanket statement that can be made.
That's certainly your right. That is why I asked what this boy's parents thought. I think their views should've been considered by the judge. Unfortunately, the article doesn't make mention of what they thought.

Police: Area teacher had sex with teen

A former teacher at the Gainesville private school The Rock was arrested Thursday after authorities said she had sex with a 15-year-old student and had his baby.
Sanjuanita Cardenas, 26, was charged with lewd and lascivious conduct on a person under 16 and was arrested at Immokalee High School in Collier County, where she teaches.
Cardenas had sex with the boy numerous times between January 2000 and September 2001 at his home, Alachua County Sheriff's Bureau Chief Linda White said. Cardenas lived with the boy's family while she taught at The Rock. She had the baby, a girl, a year ago. The baby has been with Cardenas in Collier County.
"It's just a real sad situation that not only has this boy had his life damaged by this situation, but the young child has a mother who was just arrested for a felony," White said.
Cardenas, a Spanish teacher, quit her job in June 2000 after teaching at The Rock for a year or two. She said she wanted to go back to school, said Bob Carter, principal at The Rock. Cardenas holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and was listed as a student in the 2000-2001 directory. She was hired by Immokalee High School in January.
None of the incidents happened at The Rock, officials said.
Cardenas was living with the boy's family because she needed a place to stay and the victim's family opened their home to her, Carter said.
Sheriff's officials learned of the case late last year when the boy reported it, White said.
Officials at The Rock school learned about the case in August, Carter said. The victim's father took him out of the school and enrolled him at a different school.
School officials learned of the relationship from a relative of Cardenas', according to a statement released Thursday by Tad Miller, a pastor at The Rock. School officials informed the student's parents but didn't inform law enforcement, Miller told The Gainesville Sun. The student's father asked school officials to leave the matter in his hands because the child was a minor, Miller said.
"We honored his request and the confidentiality provided through the ministry," Miller wrote. "It is important to note that we were not covering the sins of the teacher, we were ministering closely to the student and his family. At no time did we suggest that anything be covered up for the sake of the name of The Rock, our only desire was to honor the family."
Miller also wrote that the church offered to "minister" to Cardenas but that she refused their help.
The Rock, 9818 SW 24th Ave., has 175 students enrolled from age 2 through 12th grade. It advertises a low student/teacher ratio, an honors program, excellent teachers and an FHSAA athletics program. It is affiliated with The Rock, an independent evangelical church.
Cardenas, who was being held Thursday night at the Collier County jail in Immokalee, will be extradited to Alachua County.
I suppose we are all entitled to define the word as we wish, but pedophilia it ain't.
There is something here that is older than any of us and being publicized more and more due to changing attitudes about the news industry and society generally.

Are you saying that the harm when the older woman panders to the sexual desires of a boy is comparable to the same boy being used by a pederast in an unnatural way? You do not seem to have a clue.
When my boys were that age, it seemed appropriate to me (right or wrong) to point out to them the attributes of some ladies to steer their minds in the correct hetero direction...
All seemed to turn out well since I am now blessed with grandchildren...However, I was faced with a dilema since we later had a daughter...And now as a teenager, she can't understand why I am so protective...She doesn't kow what their dads have been teaching the young boys she's so interested in....
So I disagree with the judge in the sense that intead of thinking about baseball, basketball, cars and computers, that young boy will be hunting for more of that great sexual experience...And it may be my daughter, or yours that he will try to push to the limit...
You are very wrong! The political correctness makes people insane. Double standard is when you apply two different standards to the same situations.
Pederast using the boy for sexual gratification is something very different from older woman letting boy to have sex with her. This is the common sense known through the thousands of years and through many cultures. Only politically correct post-Puritans are capable of ignoring those basic truths about human nature.
Just think, if you had a teenage son, whould you rather him have a erotic tryst with an older woman or to be sodomised by a homosexual?

I can see that there are a lot of people who actually believe that if things that happen are never reported, they never happened before.
Would prohibiting the reporting of these events make you feel better?
BTW being the father of 2 boys and a girl, I have lived through all it all, and no, as far as I know none of them ever were involved in any of this. However, I do know that I worried about the boys a lot less than the daughter.
Whether this is just the instincts of society or just me remains to be seen.
I do remember boys my age between the ages of 8 and 18, and reality back then was pretty much the same as today. Boys should be kept locked up until they are 21. That would solve it.
So in other words you believe in pedophilia.

Yes, when you read some of the stories about the pedophile priests, it could seem like the sex was consentual also, one told of a 16 year old boy who would climb into bed with the priest. Not many were real rapes but cases of adults enticing and using children for sex which is the definition of pedophilia.
I generally agree that it presents an inconsistency that needs to be resolved. I think that I would take it another direction that you though.
I think female to young male sex like this is creepy, justifying firing her, but should be treated as a much more minimal criminal violation than male to young male. Men are generally many many times more predatory in their pursuit of sex, frequently without regard for the welfare of their partner.
Also Kids at this age are particularly vulnerable, and a little dip into homosexuality with an authority figure is not simply a little pre-mature instance of the inevitable, it's likely a misdirection during a moment of confusion that will likely leave a scar of guilt.
Ideally, I think the law needs to make both instances illegal, but should account for these psychological differences in our biology and culture.
