Yup, it could have been dug up by animals attracted by the smell. You would have thought the police dogs would have found it though...

...There are dogs trained to find bodies buried underground. The grave - if there is one - has to be relatively shallow. A standard six footer would have drawn the notice of even the DC police. I wonder who found the body? Bet it wasn't the DC police. If it was, I'm immediately gonna wonder if they were given the word that nough time had passed to conveniently "find" the body.
