Many Muslims living in the West choose to homeschool their children as a means of preserving religious and cultural values and of minimizing any negative influences that the prevailing culture around them may have upon their childrens' lives. Provided that certain guidelines are followed, homeschooling is perfectly legal in the US and would not prevent a child from entering the university.
Rest here.

My daughter, 21 went on to cosmotology school and works in a chain and makes good money.
They both are married, own their own homes, and have been good kids all through the growing up process:)

As far as the work there are numerous programs that have been developed to help any parent homeschool.
I used a program called ACE (Accelerated Christian Ed) The only "religion" that is taught in this program is bible verse memorization.
This program was developed specifically for homeschooling. It actually involves almost NO teaching on the parents part. It is a self learning program, which actually makes the information stick better and longer when it has been learned. You can teach a child all day, that does not mean they will learn it.
I used the program through a satellite school, so they got report cards, we were mailed standardized tests to give the kids at the end of each year, and the results were sent back to us. Upon graduation they were given a diploma.
By the time my children had completed the end of the 8th grade they were both scoring post high school on the standardized test.
I believe there are other programs out there now, but we found this one easy to use and gave a good all around education in Math, English, Word Building Science and Social Studies. There were also some electives to pick from that were very good when they reached high school.

You really are wrong on this. Children that are homeschooled properly are usually more well rounded as far as social skills. We never tried to isolate or protect of kids from being around any kind of situation. The difference is we were always there with them and they saw how we handled the situations. They learn by example. My children ages 24-21 now, can converse with any age person. Most adults think they are way older then they are, and little kids love them.
We tried private schools before making the jump to homeschooling, I found them not any better then public. Who has more interest in your kids then their own parents.
I will say though that there are extremes in homeschooling as in anything. You have parents who don't maintain discpline and see that the work is done, then you have parents who as you say just want to control to much. As with anything a balance is required.

Being properly qualified is a myth that has been created by those teaching in govt. schools.
If parents were deemed not qualified, then homeschoolers test scores would not be as high as they are.
While sitting in the waiting area with the other parents, the dental assistant would come out and talk to each parent. It was always the same speech: Consider dental sealants, they need this or you should consider setting up an appt. for that. In other words, it seemed like a good way to bring in extra $$$. Also, I noticed that they had high turnover in assistants and some of them I would not trust with my kids. As a result, I stopped taking my kids there.
As for doctors. Again, I do not allow my kids to be left alone with a doctor and/or assistant. I can remember this one time I took my 2 year old daughter in as she had an infection. I was told that she was lacking in social skills! Yes, my child was two years old at the time. Another turnoff from a well known, and respected pediatrician.
There is an article or two floating around about the questions they are asking children but I am still unable to locate it.
Thank you, but when my children were small I could not even help them with their home work as the instructions I received in my school in Germany was completely different then the American instructions. Perhaps thing will be different for me when my grand son is going to school
For example, when I was in elementary school in the early 1960s, it was the era of "new math" and the multiplcation tables were not taught. My mother, a public school teacher herself, made damn sure her children learned the multiplcation tables. She also taught her class, but not officially.
She also drew the shades, looked close ways, and read her class the Bible when the question of organic evolution came up. She could have lost her job. What is significant is that my mother was not a fundamentalist in any way and believed in evolution. The question was what is one's cultural heritage and making up one's own mind.
She quit teaching because of what now would be known as "political correctness". That was thirty years ago. I shudder to think what is there now.
