"One of the government's goals is to restore confidence in the airline industry. We must address the issue of airline safety in smart and constructive ways."
The FAA has heightened security at the nation's airports, screening checked bags, prohibiting cutting instruments from being brought on board and randomly checking carry-on luggage and passengers for hazardous materials. Bush this month, announced plans to distribute $100 million to airlines so the commercial carriers can secure cockpit doors and install flight deck and cabin monitoring systems.
