I have friends doing Fed time for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon (non-violent convictions). The penalties are already stiff. In other words, we(RKBA folks)have already lost that aspect of the WOG. It's a great tool to whittle away at our ranks.

so the government may be facing the grim prospect of having to arrest, try, convict, and imprison some 667,000 "lawbreakers." Don't they mean try to arrest? ;-)

I think my point I have so clumsily tried to make is that even though Canada has considerably more restrictive gun laws (for some time actually) that our penalties are ironically much more severe for the existing (and ever growing) firearms violation statutes we have.
