It is nice to be away from USA just now. The Nation newspaper in Bangkok only listed Rice's statement and dismissed the Democrats as "political". My blood pressure is better this way. I had no idea until logging on tonight that this was such fuss. It shouldn't be.
Some loath to criticize Bush, aides for handling of warnings***New York's most prominent Democrat, Senator Hillary Clinton, also declined to criticize Bush. ''I know there is never any shortage of second-guessers and Monday-morning quarterbacks ready to dismantle any comment or critique any action taken or not taken,'' Clinton said in a speech on the Senate floor.
She added: ''I am simply here ... to seek answers to questions, questions being asked by my constituents.'' She called for Senate hearings, requested the release of Bush's intelligence briefing from last August, and asked the president ''why we know today, May 16, about the warning he received, and why we did not know this on April 16, or March 16, or Feb. 16 ... or Aug. 16.''***
