$12 is for private home cleaning jobs, of which they can have several at a time (that seems to be the going price HERE but it can be more in other areas). Better than Burger King jobs or nursing home jobs at minimum pay. I know a woman who does only cleaning for small business offices here in town and she does very well. Yes, she works several jobs and it's not easy, but she manages her money well and she's doing fine. Most private jobs are under the table as well (not that I'm condoning that practice) so taxes aren't involved. People don't have to strip their clothes off to make a living.

A human being can only work so many hours before physical exhaustion sets in. A single parent who expects to be any kind of parent has to work less, not only from a parenting standpoint but from a financial one as well (at some point, the cost of childcare outpaces the money earned by working endless hours). Then there's the problem of blackmarket labor- no health benefits, no worker protection of any kind, and the single parent becomes a criminal.
Remind me again how this is better than stripping?
