A human being can only work so many hours before physical exhaustion sets in. A single parent who expects to be any kind of parent has to work less, not only from a parenting standpoint but from a financial one as well (at some point, the cost of childcare outpaces the money earned by working endless hours). Then there's the problem of blackmarket labor- no health benefits, no worker protection of any kind, and the single parent becomes a criminal.
Remind me again how this is better than stripping?

Exhaustion leads to double pneumonia, which leads to the Dr telling you to take time off work.... which will lead to no food for the kid, and no money to pay the rent, because you live paycheck to paycheck....
And the reason you live paycheck to paycheck is because you put your child before your job, and your employers reacted by denying promotions, firing you, etc.
