You'll find a number of reports of the red headbands on this Google search. (I haven't looked at the articles in detail except to confirm that many of them do describe red headbands on the terrorists.)

What is the significance of this fact?

This is such an excellent reference. Thank you for taking time to compile and post it. Maybe I haven't read thoroughly enough, but I see no mention of the story about the disputed FAA memo claiming a passenger was shot by a hijacker on AA11. Link: Hijacker shot passenger on Flight 11

Here is a little more background on Al-Marabh:

Al-Marabh's pet parrot is what brought him
to the attention of U.S. police.
The parrot was also a mascot
at the downtown copy shop.

Earlier this year,
a Detroit roommate blamed Al-Marabh
and his parrot
for their messy apartment.

The roommate threw a TV remote control
that hit Al-Marabh
in the face
and charged at him
with a samurai sword.

Al-Marabh,
who pulled a small knife
from his cellphone,
pleaded guilty to assault
and was given a year's probation.

Around this time, there is at least one report that ATTA and AL-SHEHHI further their pilot instruction at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University near their new environs. But Embry-Riddle has never publicly confirmed or denied that the two hijackers had been at the school.

Call the following number (386) 226-6000. Ask to speak to the VP of Public Relations, she will tell you that the FBI thoroughly investigated the university and there is not one shred of evidence linking the terrorists to ERAU. The Age is made up of a bunch of old women from both sexes and panics at the slightest provocation. Idiots.

Outstanding job, sir. What an incredible amount of work this must have been. I bet the Feds don't even have all this info in one place. (Well, they better!) Thank you for your work.

And thanks for the ping, nogbad.

D- Thank you for all this work!

Nogbad- I agree your shop looks interesting as the source of the letters. I know you've mentioned that shop before, but I didn't realize Atta had been up in Canada. (Or, at least I don't remember it if I ever did read that.) Thanks for the ping to this excellent post.
