It's a shame that I reside in the US but have to visit Israeli sources for frank discussions on US/Israel matters.

A dumb way to spy on people. Is the Mossad this dumb?

**With news agencies and at least one national television station regurgitating all the details.
Well-put. Regurgitating of old rumors, unproven facts galore. And you admit the Israeli press is open and honest, so in fact you pretty much admit this spy story is so much paranoia by an angry DEA agent.

If you had read further, you would have found that this was originally a FOX news story. "The first mention of a mass arrest of Israeli art students on suspicion of involvement in spying was on Fox News on December 12, 2001. The dramatic report stated that around 60 Israelis had been arrested for immigration offenses, but were suspected of spying against the United States, and added that some of those arrested were members of the Israeli military. The report also stated that some of those arrested had failed lie-detector tests."

The original Fox news report was so flawed and filled with inaccuracies they pulled it from the Fox site.

Then it should be fairly easy for you to name just one flaw,or inaccuracy, right?
To: xvb
I'll make it easy for you now, here is the link to the original FOX news transcript on this story, now where is the flaw? http://www.firefox.1accesshost.com/cameron.html

Perhaps The Forward's take on this story would interest you? "Two weeks later, the New York Jewish weekly, Forward, published a report connecting the spy affair with the arrest in New Jersey, on September 11, of five Israelis whose behavior was defined as suspicious. The five were employed by a moving company and did not have valid work permits. According to Forward, the FBI concluded that the five were on a spy mission on behalf of the Mossad, and that the moving company was nothing more than a front. This story also died out quietly."

I was surprised to have these two young Israeli art student stopping door to door in my suburban area. My town is very small and has nothing to do with security information. The students talked to me by my door. They were polite, and I don't recall them asking any question out of line.
I think the whole thing can be simply young people trying to raise money? If they went into Government agencies to gather information? that does not mean anything either; Israel has unlimited access to all our military installations. So what is the big deal.
To: Aleksandar Vojvoda
name just one flawOK, here are just a few:
The students attempted to form friendships with federal employees, photograph their offices, tap their phone lines and infiltrate their databases.
Think about it. How many targets are likely to give some "art student" that kind of access? How stupid of a cover is that? It makes more sense for a spy to gain access as an after-hours janitor, or a cable TV installer.
According to some speculations, the Israelis' intelligence work enabled the spy ring to know in advance of the planned terror attack on September 11, without lifting a finger to prevent it.
How much art did they sell at flight schools? None of this regurgitated bovine matter says anything about art students hanging out at flight schools.

Is the Mossad this dumb?Actually, no. Especially when you consider that the allegation is that 60, or 120, full-time, long term, Israeli agents were involved. In other words, this is not something that could have been pulled off by one Israeli idiot--it would have taken a large part of their intelligence apparatus being idiots.
I think the stupidest part is the allegation that the Israeli spies were talking their way into U.S. government facilities, some military, some otherwise. At least before September 11 (may still be the same), U.S. military bases often had small museums or libraries open to the general public. Or sometimes you could talk your way (with a "VA" ID, perhaps) into getting the right to travel base roads, saying that it would be a shortcut to some outside place you wanted to drive to. So what? It's not like once you are in, there are top secret U.S. photos of the West Bank just lying out in the open. In all the true spy stories I've read, foreign agents who come here have to recruit American traitors, and there are no allegations of this here. Where is the Pollard, Rosenberg, or Hiss of this case? The whole thing does not make sense.

The Israelis spying on the US is nothing new. Not even Clinton was sleazy enough to release
Jonathan Pollard , despite the money he undoubtedly could have weaseled from his supporters.

The only peculiarity to having these students stop by my door is that the area is very remote. If I was trying to raise money, I land in NY, and start hitting apartment buildings, I will end up talking to thousands in a matter of days. In my suburb, Houses are far apart, and no one walks, and will take a whole day to talk to a dozen people?
That, by itself was suspicious? Also given that we dont have easy flights to our area? Therefore, I am still puzzled, from one side, I think that they were just trying to raise money, but on the other hand, raising the money in my remote neighborhood is not practical, and appears suspicious?

From your link;
Fox News has learned that one group of Israelis, spotted in North Carolina recently, is suspected of keeping an apartment in California to spy on a group of Arabs who the United States is also investigating for links to terrorism.
John Ashcroft himself denied the So. Carolina story. It never happened, it was a rumor.
And the Forward article merely recycled all the other news reports, ad nauseum.

No, the Mossad is not that dumb. Who these art students were is anybody's guess, but I wouldn't think they were a part of the Moussad. More than likely part of the peace activists who just staged a 60,000 strong peace march in Israel.
It is part of the Mossad's mission to protect Israelis and Jews all over the world. They are unique and very effective in intelligence gathering. I have heard that they are connected to the Anti Defimation League however.

Chuckle, yep...
And I heard this story months ago but in that permutation it was Arab students going around selling art -- presumably as scouts to case places for future terrorist strikes.
Will feed anti-semitic conspiracy theories for years to come, though I'm sure.

I get the distinct impression you are quite a jew hater.
You have a lot in common with Sharpton and Jackson. Much more so than me.
What is your problem with jews and Israel?
