Poll: Majority of Americans Want Clinton to Retire

A slim majority of registered voters surveyed last week said they would prefer to see ex-President Bill Clinton retire from public life and return to Arkansas rather than host his own TV talk show.

The poll, conducted by the Washington-based Wilson Research Strategies, asked 1,000 registered voters:

"Former President Bill Clinton recently met with NBC television executives to discuss regularly hosting a television interview show. Which of the following statements best represents your view?"

According to a U.S. Newswire report on the survey, 53 percent agreed with the statement:

"Former president Clinton should not go on television, he should move back to Arkansas to retire in order to allow the nation to heal from the wounds of his presidency."

47 percent liked the idea of a Clinton TV show, agreeing with the statement:

"A program hosted by former President Clinton would be interesting and entertaining and I would most likely tune in."

Surprisingly, more women than men objected to the idea of the Clinton show, with 54 percent opposed. 52 percent of men turned thumbs down on the project.

Broken down by political affiliation, Democrats back the idea, with 55 percent telling WRS pollsters they'll watch Clinton's show. Only 15 percent of Republicans like the idea, while 34 percent of Independents say they'd tune in.

The group most likely to make up Clinton's core audience is African-Americans, 69 percent of whom told WRS that they'd watch.

On Friday Clinton told National Public Radio that while he'll continue to listen to proposals for a TV show, he currently spends so much time in public service that there would be no room left in his schedule for such a project. (See: Clinton Still Rejects Bush Election Victory)

WRS surveyed 1000 registered voters between May 5-8. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percent.

Considering that shows like Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake thrive, I'm not surprised so many say they would watch. Personally, I would do something more interesting; clipping my toenails.

RE #1

I guess that it is stressful for their supporters to continuously apologize for Clinton. If Clinton shows up in public again, they need to do it again. They cannot "move on" because Clinton won't. By the way, who are these 15% of Republicans who want to see him on TV ?

"Noted Connecticut criminologist Dr. Henry Lee...said positive proof that Clinton is Williams' father would require DNA test information not included in OIC documents released to the House...."

"Five agencies have refused to endorse the accuracy of Clinton's published DNA profile. This further suggests that the President's DNA may have been altered for privacy and security reasons. With the Star magazine DNA tests taken from OIC documents and the fact that there may have been an altercation, the paternity test could prove to be worthless.

Variables:

1) 1,000 registered voters
2) 47 percent liked the idea of a Clinton TV show, agreeing with the statement:

"A program hosted by former President Clinton would be interesting and entertaining and I would most likely tune in."

3) 55% of Democrats back the idea
4) 15% of Republicans like the idea
5) 34% of Independents say they'd tune in
6) 69% of African-Americans said they'd watch

Question: What was the breakdown of respondents by political party and race in this poll, and what effect would a more balanced sample have on the final results?

"The group most likely to make up Clinton's core audience is African-Americans, 69 percent of whom told WRS that they'd watch."

Ahem.

Message to blacks: You're so easily suckered it's just pathetic. Jesse Jackson.............Farrakhan.............Sharpton...........etc., etc., etc. ad nauseum. Now, Clinton. You folks are just so easy.

[I readily and heartily exclude black FReepers from this description, for they obviously have minds, active brain cells, are knowledgeable about current events, and are too aware to be so hoodwinked.]
