Fresno, California Support Our Troops Rally 5-10-02

Thirty or so Patriots and FReepers outnumbered peaceniks for the first time tonight on the corner of Blackstone and Shaw in Fresno, California! I counted eight peaceniks across the street from us. There were enough of us tonight (thanks in part to the Republican Central Committee who sent out faxes and emails these last few weeks) to spread out onto a second corner.

At one point during the evening, one of the peaceniks drove over to our side of the street to pass out handouts and generally tried to get us to agree with him that America is the worst terrorist country there is. (Not going to happen! We LOVE our country!) One of the patriots he was talking to said that even if the USA has some faults, it's definitely the best country around and he said he disagreed, that France or Sweden would be a better place to live. (Love it or leave it, Buddy.) When he didn't make any headway, he got in his car (which sported an upside-down flag) and drove off.

Tonight we listened to patriotic tunes, we bought out dormant patriotic fervor in many drivers by, we visited with each other, and had a great time! About a half an hour after the last of the peaceniks punched their time cards and went home at 6:30 on the dot, we packed up our signs, flags, bullhorns, etc. and vowed to do it again next Friday night.

We have a reservist Sailor in my church, he got activated, he is now an MP, guarding the gate in full combat gear! He was a machinist's mate, they sent him to Pennsylvania to MP school, taught him to shoot, he dresses like a Marine!!

P.S. Do you have threads going about that crazed Cynthia woman, so I can get a feel as to the kind of slogans and such that you need?! I have not forgotten about you, AFVG, I promise -- it is merely that the preparation for my Borg oral implants is not proceeding at a respectable pace. It was my impression that I was merely healing insufficiently from the surgical incisions, but as I discovered last night, there are three different places where approximately half an inch of bone (in length) is protruding from my gums. (To quote the humans on the ship -- "YOWWWWWWWCH!!") (Being stubbornly determined to enjoy Cadet Piper's birthday dinner party the other night, no matter what, was not wise. However, I still believe that the ribeye steak was well [actually, more "medium rare"] worth it *G*)

Hey Phil! Unfortunately, it is only "moi" from the neck up. The rest is taken from a cardboard stand-up of Seven of Nine on ST: Voyager! (The rest of the real me is just too skinny and gawky-looking! Blech!) (*G*)

If jkphoto thinks he can pull it off with one of the photos that I have of me, I'm going to purchase the Seven of Nine cardboard stand-up, and probably have it sent directly to jkphoto and Mama_Bear, so they can turn me into "Beep of FReep," and drag me along to rallies!

I sooooooooo want to be a Fresno FReeper, but I live too far away (Nashville, TN), and I am forbidden from traveling that far by my neurosurgeon. But possibly after my next brain surgery?! (I hope!!) (I'm planning on it!!)

The peacenuts are not so overwhelming since the pro-terrorists quit coming. I think they were more or less told to stay on their corner and quit trying to start a confrontation. It's great to have some of the local politicians standing with us (and of course ... the big man).
