In the buckle of the bible belt, Carthage, Mo.,PC is reining in the local high school.Today the students of the school were required to fill out a survey about their feelings related to guns. One of the questions ask if there were guns in the home in which the student lived. Another ask if the student had discussed guns with his doctor. Why does a school need any information about a student's feelings or lack of feelings about guns? Who could be behind such an intrusion into the home?

Another ask if the student had discussed guns with his doctor.

Why would someone discuss guns with his doctor? Is that same person to discuss his sore throat with the local NRA chapter?

Here's a couple of reasons:

1. The folks behind the question sought to know which homes had guns so they could avoid them while they undertook various house robberies in the summer months. This is a traditional practie of a certain quality of teacher who otherwise supplements his annual income by painting houses.

2. To know where the guns are so he or she can sell the information to thieves who wish to steal guns.

I cannot think of another reason, valid or not, for these questions to be asked of the students.

Looking for future architects, it sounds like a good assignment to me. Not sinister at all. I'll bet the school didn't keep the floor plans, they turned them back with the other homework assignments.

Could it be a round about way to discuss possible suicidal thoughts, with a suspected depressed kid? Just trying to find a ligit reason, since my tinfoil hat is out being cleaned & pressed.

The gubmint pays for information, so this school might have been looking for a few more bucks.

Don't worry about it, the information is only added to a database and shared with all government entities. Sleep well.

During a recent doctor's visit that resulted in the diagnosis of "impending menopause," I had to fill out one of those stupid surveys. At the question about having guns in the home I stated "None of your effing business." I walked out with a perscription for hormones. Oh, well, it could have been worse.

And it really wasn't any of that whipper snapper's business!

The school would be too big & the kids would not be that familiar with all of it.

Socialist who think your children belong to the state and gives them the right to obtain any information that can potentially harm them.

...Especially, the values you teach them at home.

If you send your children to a public school, they do not belong to you.

Just ask their teachers. They will tell you.

QUESTION: "Who could be behind such an intrusion into the home?"

ANSWER: It is hard to face but it is the wholesale acceptance of the idea of equal rights politically, socially and economically. Further, our leadership class has lost their ability to give firm leadership. The aforementioned is coupled with a lack of self control among various trash groups which are 'on the rise'. These facts have allowed those who were once properly excluded from our society to rise to the top. They are bungled, vice ridden and stupid, and they vaguely know it. However, they are dimly aware that they will do lots of damage. By doing lots of damage and harm people in this country will revolt. Revolutions need guns. Therefore, there is a race to get the guns before the Sudra's are pushed down to where they belong. This is why they are ever increasing their intrusions. It is up to us.

I agree wholeheartedly...however, the doc will now frequently inquire about guns in the home as part of the "prevention" aspect of a physical examination. An internist I transcribe for routinely dictates that he discussed sun protection, gun safety, safe sexual practices, and use of seatbelts.

A GP I type for includes on the kids, "when asked what he would do if he saw a gun at a friend's home he responds 'XXX.'"

I'd expect it more of the young whippersnappers straight out of med school but both of these docs are more my age and in one of the red states from the 2000 election.

They don't, but it is a good exercise to help develop geometric awareness. It's part of using maps for instance. To be able to go from the concrete 3 dimensional world to a flat "map" is a skill that must be developed. I very much doubt that the floor plans were required to show gun safes, floor vaults or much of anything other than the basic floor plan. A plan that is likely the same as that of a signifigent number of ones neighbors, even in the "custom" home communities.

If this ever happens, I`ve instructed my kids to write in "none of your business". I`ll back them to the hilt on that one!

I live in Connecticut (deep in enemy territory). If ANY doctor that I pay EVER asked me a question about guns, safe sex, or anything else, I would just simply get up, walk out the door and never return.

Come to think of it, my doctor (who is perhaps the best MD I've ever come across) DOES talk to me about guns. He has a hunting cabin in upstate New York (I don't hunt).

I also discussed guns with my doctor. He was saying how glad he was that he got his HK .308 before they were banned. I also run into my dentist at the gun shows. But then this is in Fargo, ND, not part of the real world you know.
