President Bush hit the road once again to promote his domestic agenda, this time focusing on welfare reform. Bush stopped in Ohio and spoke to a crowd at St. Stephen's Community House in Columbus regarding the need for Congress to work together on welfare reform as they did on education. The President also made a brief statement that the end of the Church of the Nativity seige was a positive development, but also said he recognized Israel's right to defend herself in light of the latest homicide bombing. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I also get sick of the media looking for a "rift" in the administration. Last Sun., Condi said that the issue of the settlements would have to be addressed at some time, but she wasn't ready to say when. Powell said that the issue had to be addressed soon.
And the media calls that a "rift"???

The Dems must be shaking in their boots over W's approval ratings, especially the recent poll out of CA showing W would handily beat Gore if the election were held today. I sense that many people who didn't vote for Bush have come to respect him and even feel some affection for him. I'm sure these disruptors must be in panic mode. Isn't it nice?

I thought Bush's speech at the Correspondents Dinner was hilarious and well delivered. Maybe Peggy thought Clinton's speech was more flashy (no pun intended) with that elaborate video that he showed. But Clinton is more "Hollywood," with his showbiz friends and all. And that is not in his favor! So his Hollywood friends probably helped him with the video. Big whoop.

Now I'm not sure I want to read Peggy. This doesn't sound like her at all, and I agree with your assessment of W. He was delightful at the WH Correspondent's dinner. I love the way he quietly says what he means without belaboring the point. The man doesn't waste words.

I don't think the Dems have anything to worry about, Dubya is the best Liberal out there, just look at the Farm Bill, amnesty for ILLEGAL immigrants and Steel tariffs. Don't even talk about the bungled war on terror, Iraq ? lol rest assured we ain't ready.

That's what I thought too. She has always been very impressed with Clinton's speaking and presentation skills. I have never understood that.
I do agree with her assessment that W doesn't like hobnobbing with the Hollywood types and I (as does she) think that is wonderful. In that context, yes it is better to be boring than "entertaining." But she was wrong about his speech. It was great - funny, revealing, and his timing was perfect.

Thank you for the compliment, but I could never do it.
My husband's position involves a lot of dealings with government agencies, so it would constitute a conflict of interest, which I would not do, since I am not like Mrs. Daschle.
The main reason, however, is that I have an unfortunate handicap. When I get angry, I burst into tears! This is not good when debating or dealing with the press. LOL! I can't help it, and it was a real handicap when I worked in the corporate world. Nothing more ridiculous than trying to argue with a co-worker and starting to cry! LOL!
I am content to offer advice and comments. Others are better suited for the arena than I.

Yes, you are right. I was listenting to one of the talking heads (maybe Chris Matthews, I know, I know) but the general thinking was that they should "agree ahead of time about what they are going to say on the Sunday shows". Like they are robots. I find it refreshing to listen to each person's take on the sujbect in this administration. As compared to the last admin. - they just spewed forth the day's talking points. Of course Powell might have a slightly different take on things than say, Condi, or Rummy. That's what is so great about the people GWB has working for us.
To: Fiddlstix
Of course I remember you! Where have you been?
To: Fiddlstix
Beautiful tribute, Fiddlstix. I saw the link posted on The Canteen today but didn't have time to check it out. I'm so glad you brought it here tonight.
To: Miss Marple
You would probably make an excellent advisor to an elected official.

You are SOOO Bad! Maybe they're actually just doing a Jim Carrey and The Claw imitation?
To: McLynnan
Very good, Mc. Cogent and intelligent synopsis of the Mexican problem.

Peggy thinks Clinton is a better speaker. I will never agree with her on this. His video "humor" was sophomoric and exclusively about HIM. Bush's press speech was about others and so notable that days later I still chuckle at the humor of those pictures and his comments.
