There are easily 4-5 million Americans who would be willing to do it now, or at least with a good pay raise.

I seriously considered Navy JAG corps for when I'm done with law school, but for the fact that the pay is awful. I couldn't live above the poverty line and at the same time pay back my student loans. I think it's a job I could handle and really like for several years, but I'm not going to mortgage my future to do it.
