I'm sorry, but no intelligent human being busts their ass through 4 years of college, and a hellish 3 years of law school so that when they finish they can be rewarded with a $36,000 salary and $80,000 in debt. It's even more difficult if you're caucasian, since scholarships are much harder to come by.

Doing things you might rather do become a financial impossibility simply because of what it takes to get the education in the first place. That said, JAG never thrilled me all that much anyhow...too much criminal law work for my tastes. But the uniform is nice.
