Pilots with guns scare ABC s Cokie Roberts (Idiot Alert!)

Pilots with guns scare ABCs Cokie Roberts because airplanes is one of the few places I feel safe from guns. Having some pilot whos gone off his nut for some reason running around with a gun does not make me feel safe. This Week co-host Sam Donaldson stood with Roberts against guns, even when pressed by George Will about whether he wished the pilots had guns on September 11th.
During the roundtable segment on the May 5 This Week with, for now, Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts, Donaldson raised how commercial airline pilots have signed a petition to allow them to carry guns in the cockpit.
The prospect horrified Roberts, who denounced the idea: I dont feel safer. Airplanes is one of the few places I feel safe from guns. Having some pilot whos gone off his nut for some reason running around with a gun does not make me feel safe. George Stephanopoulos, the future solo host of the program, pointed out: Thats always a danger. That person is always in control of the plane and could fly it into the ground if he wants to...
George Will quipped: It is the case, I think, that support for pilots being armed increases as people have more and more experience with so-called airport security.
Will soon asked Donaldson: Do you or do you not wish the pilots on September 11th had been armed? Yes or no Sam. Donaldson: Well I wish that somebody- Will: Thats not a yes or a no. Donaldson: Well, when I asked Secretary Powell for a yes or a no question we heard two or three minutes and I and Im happy to do it. Will: The prosecution rests. Roberts interjected: Suppose the hijackers had pulled the gun out of the pilots hand if the pilot had a gun? Donaldson came to Roberts side: I dont know whether it would have made any difference. If it could have made a difference of course you would want it to happen. But I think, in the long run, guns in the cockpit are not a good idea. I join Cokie.

So - we can trust them to fly $300 million airplanes, loaded to the hilt with ordinance, or carrying 300+ civilian passengers, but not to carry a pistol?
The kicker to all of this is that if Flight 93 hadn't been brought down by the passegers it would have likely been up to a reservist in an F16 (who is more than likely a commercial airline pilot) to shoot down the entire plan before it reached DC.
Take your pick Cookie.... A commercial pilot taking out the individual terrorist or one taking out the whole airliner...

Roberts interjected: Suppose the hijackers had pulled the gun out of the pilots hand if the pilot had a gun?
Ohhh, no! If that unlikely event happened, as many as 16 (plus one in the chamber) passengers might have been injured or killed, or it would have changed nothing.
Bottom line: Worst case: exactly the same outcome - Best case: Some dead ragheads and a whole lot of live Americans.

They don't want the pilot to carry Mr. Glock aboard, they'll have to settle for Mr. F-16 and Mr. Sidewinder to resolve the situation.

I wonder how safe Cokie would have felt flying on that blessedly gun-free Egyptair Flight 990?

Well, yeah!?! Duh. Where'd we be without the likes of Alec Baldwin et ali?
I think he should be barred from air travel too, and we should enforce his promise he made pertaining to the presidential election. Good riddance.

Pilots with guns scare ABCs Cokie Roberts because "airplanes is one of the few places I feel safe from guns." Dream on Cokie, dream on.
NEW ORLEANS A man carried two loaded handguns through a security checkpoint at Louis Armstrong International Airport on Monday but was arrested after a random check before he boarded a flight to Los Angeles.
FBI special agent Julian Gonzales said the semiautomatic handguns were found in the man's backpack at the Continental Airlines gate.

The only way I'll ever feel safe from guns on airplanes is if they let me carry mine on.

Cokie looks like a pekingese dog on crack. How such a grotesque looking heifer got on a TV network news show is a puzzle, ain't it?

It won't help ABC when they replace Vulcan-Ambassador-wannabe Sam Donaldson and big-eyed Cokie with girly-man George Stephanopolous. Sheesh, when that happens poor old "conservative" George Will will probably look more constipated than ever. Can you imagine a program where Stphanopolous might be a step up?

Cokie and Sam, whether they realize it or not,
are aiding and abetting terrorist action by insisting we do nothing to prevent future attacks. Doesn't this woman know we are at war and you don't disarm your soldiers? Do that, and you lose.
We need all hands on deck to win this war, and all hands had better be armed.

I don't think that was stupid at all. In fact you made lots of sense. Its the liberal's feelings that are stupid.
But look, nowadays thinking about it is as good as doing something about it. In fact just feeling bad about something is as good as thinking about doing something about it. In fact that would be cultural imperialism to imply that the person who accomplishes something is in anyway better than the person who thought or felt about what that person did. I wonder if we can now make it a crime to merely think bad thoughts or feel evil.

Pilots with guns may scare Kookie, but the fact that so many people get their news from people like her
really scares me. Just imagine all the people sitting in their living rooms nodding their heads, believing that this woman really has a clue.
Mind boggling.

"There is no toilet in the cockpit. What happens in the co-pilot goes to take a leak and is overtaken---allowing the terrorist access into the cockpit?" They probably will insist that the pilots all use Pampers.

I hear by nominate Cookie Roberts to be the Dunbest Bit@H to scanctify the Earth with a foot print.

Hey Cokie, don't cross the river into Virginia. The person next to you might be one of over 100,000 citizens with carry permits. (Actually ther reason there is almost no street crime in the VA suburbs that are right next to the Forbidden Zone and the People's Republic of Maryland, where citizens are forbidden to carry and where violent crime is rampant.) Check your facts Coke.

I believe air marshals are armed. Air marshal assignments are secret, so every flight can be considered to have an air marshal on board. Why does Cokie even bother to fly at all ?
