Pilots with guns scare ABCs Cokie Roberts because airplanes is one of the few places I feel safe from guns. Having some pilot whos gone off his nut for some reason running around with a gun does not make me feel safe. This Week co-host Sam Donaldson stood with Roberts against guns, even when pressed by George Will about whether he wished the pilots had guns on September 11th.
During the roundtable segment on the May 5 This Week with, for now, Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts, Donaldson raised how commercial airline pilots have signed a petition to allow them to carry guns in the cockpit.
The prospect horrified Roberts, who denounced the idea: I dont feel safer. Airplanes is one of the few places I feel safe from guns. Having some pilot whos gone off his nut for some reason running around with a gun does not make me feel safe. George Stephanopoulos, the future solo host of the program, pointed out: Thats always a danger. That person is always in control of the plane and could fly it into the ground if he wants to...
George Will quipped: It is the case, I think, that support for pilots being armed increases as people have more and more experience with so-called airport security.
Will soon asked Donaldson: Do you or do you not wish the pilots on September 11th had been armed? Yes or no Sam. Donaldson: Well I wish that somebody- Will: Thats not a yes or a no. Donaldson: Well, when I asked Secretary Powell for a yes or a no question we heard two or three minutes and I and Im happy to do it. Will: The prosecution rests. Roberts interjected: Suppose the hijackers had pulled the gun out of the pilots hand if the pilot had a gun? Donaldson came to Roberts side: I dont know whether it would have made any difference. If it could have made a difference of course you would want it to happen. But I think, in the long run, guns in the cockpit are not a good idea. I join Cokie.
There is no toilet in the cockpit. What happens in the co-pilot goes to take a leak and is overtaken---allowing the terrorist access into the cockpit?
The door is very strong so any Todd Beamers in the cabin are just out of luck.
But at least Cokie feels safe.
As if this woman has flown commercial in the last thirty years....
Airplanes is? Airplanes is? This idiot (Cokie) earns a living with the English language (spoken/written)?
Hey Ms. Cokehead. It's airplanes ARE!
That would be a laugh riot.
"Ms. Roberts, we're the crew and we're "off our nut", so please, leave now."
Youre darn right we do! I just copied this to the ALPA forum and Im in the process of e-mailing it to 8 buddies as we speak with you comments included and a link to this post.
The elitist attitude of these two socialist boot lickers is nauseating. I sincerely hope they try and board my jet in the near future. I assume they are most likely flying via charter when able. After 9/11 we saw a massive jump in charter requests especially from the left coast limo liberals who no longer wanted to ride with the common folk.
Who wanted to fly via private jet to and from their destinations. But demand that the good little serfs stand patiently in line at the security check in and be strip-searched by Olga and Abdul the newhire security guards.
Jeezzzzzzz! The mentality of these Nazi turds makes me want to vomit!
What a dumb, emotionally-driven slit.
It would have meant that the plane would hit its intended target - just as it did.
However, an armed crew member would have increased the chance that they would have never gotten control of the cockpit. No downside - only an upside.
This is something that leftists never expect to find. That's why they need rules for every aspect of everyone's life.
When they do find integrity, they feel their authority is threatened and their instinct is to attack.
Even Cokie, with her very limited intelligence, can probably figure out why.
Thank you.
A small chance, but better than nothing.
Heard today that Boston Judge who is to hold Cardinal Law's deposition wants to do so NOW. She has heard that he may be called to Rome . She "supposed " that he might be made ambassador. Diplomatic immunity??
SO...isn't Cokie's Mom the current ambassador?
Cokie might have to "fly" there to bring her home. She does know that Air Marshalls are armed doesn't she?
Ever since David Brinkley retired, I watched the show less often, though often enough to witness its decline. Finally, by a few months ago, I stopped watching it altogether. It's the idiocy of all of the commentators, including "conservative" icon George Will that is unstomachable.
What Kookie Roberts does not realize is that if the pilot goes off his rocker or has some crazed psychotic episode, he's got a much bigger weapon than a gun at his disposal.
The events of 9-11 proved that a passenger airplane can be a deadly weapon when in the hands of crazed psychotics (though, in that case it was Arab, Islamic terrorists, not the pilots, of course).
Kookie's statement proves that she has learned absolutely nothing from the attacks of September 11th. It proves liberals like her are brain dead.
It won't help ABC when they replace Vulcan-Ambassador-wannabe Sam Donaldson and big-eyed Cokie with girly-man George Stephanopolous. Sheesh, when that happens poor old "conservative" George Will will probably look more constipated than ever.
Hmmm. Right, good thinking.
Liberal logic is an oxymoron.
