Reagan Wanted Marijuana Legalized
email ^

Posted on 05/06/2002 6:21:05 PM PDT by Texaggie79

In newly released audiotapes of Ronald Reagan's broadcast commentaries, Reagan made clear his view that individuals should be allowed to use marijuana if they wanted to.

The Reagan broadcasts come from the days before Reagan became president and were believed to be lost.

But in the new audio set "Reagan In His Own Voice" the unedited version of Reagan's most controversial broadcasts are now available.

In one broadcast, Reagan declared it was an individual's choice if they chose to smoke marijuana, as long as they were aware of the health risks.

Reagan had a strong Libertarian streak, though he also held strong views about prayer in school, abortion, sex-ed in schools and other social concerns.

Its good that you clarify your elitism to all who read and post here.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Well, some muddle-brained, adolescent, anarchist dweeb had the temerity to call me "neocon boy" yesterday. I figure I might as well live up to my new reputation!

Go Pat Go!!!

Reagan had a strong Libertarian streak...

Ronald Reagan was a social conservative, first and foremost. He believed in the conservative-republican agenda of smaller and more efficient government, along with tax reduction and reform. Reagan opposed abortion and legalizing prostitution. Reagan supported a strong military and a belief in America's criminal justice system, that dealt out old fashioned law and order to law breakers and drug offenders alike. Reagan presided over, the largest funding increases in the history of America's national drug control policy. That anti-drug policy led to significant reductions in illicit drug use, throughout America during the 1980`s and early 1990`s.

The current Libertarian Party Platform, has little in common with the conservative movement and "true" libertarian policy, has nothing in common with the conservatism of Ronald Reagan.

In your face!

I didn't know I was required to agree with Ronald Reagan on all issues and matters.

As President, Ronald Reagan presided over, the largest funding increases in America's national drug control policy. Reagan's remarks, that adults should be permitted to legally ingest marijuana, will satisfy all the libertarian dopers. But if Reagan was so inclined to make marijuana legal, he could have issued an Executive Order removing marijuana from the list of controlled substances. He didn't. Nuff said.

Btw, up your arse!

I have no problem with zoning laws that regulate such property usage, so long as they reflect LOCAL community standards and are not imposed by state or federal authorities.

The feds are working diligently even as we speak to impose FEDERAL guidelines on your local zoning board. And they're going to use the same New Deal Commerce Clause that empowers the federal government to prohibit marijuana to do it.

Typical tactic of pro legalizer propaganda. Take a statement devoid of any actual transcript or context and declare it as a fact for their side.

This is called historical revision and the left is famous for engaging in it. It's why they think the consitution was written on hemp paper.

A little Libertarianism sprinkled on a Conservative philosophy is a wonderful blend.

Doug call it what you want, that statement pretty much sums up his opinion on the subject of MJ

"Reagan declared it was an individual's choice if they chose to smoke marijuana, as long as they were aware of the health risks. "

Not sure about your revisionism here, looks like a pretty cut and dry statement to me.

Sure it's a cut and dried statement. But that doesn't make it accurate. There's no quote, no transcript, just an interpetation made by some guy who's trying to sell a book.

Anytime anyone brings up Joe Friday, I have to bring up my favorite quote from Dragnet:

Marijuana is the fuse, LSD is the bomb!

I had seen that thread, while it was developing, and could not follow it,
except for the part about the names for a band,
should it be Bongs for Peace, or something, like PigSemen

I considered BwaB here, but decided against it because Reagan is only speaking common sense. I reserve BwaB for threads that I arbitrarily find not only strange but silly as well. I've been itching to give the award again, but this is not going to be that thread. Thank you for mentioning it though. :-)

Would a MurryMom thread qualify, or does it have to be Dadaist-level surreal?
