Sounds as if the good people of California are about to have a "temper tantrum" just like we all did in 1994! :-)

It is not clear from the story if the Encinitas women had even heard Simon mention the abortion issue. But Finnegan managed to goad one woman into saying, "I don't care to listen any longer. I don't think I could vote for this man." TRANSLATION: "I'll say whatever you want me to say if you'll shut up and quit bothering me."

The Only Poll That Counts Is...(well you know the rest of this)

Starla Adkins finish his news story with an ominous warning to Simon. "Stay out of my womb," she said. "That's what I like to tell a lot of these political men." What are you? A one person abortion factory? Gotta have the right to murder as many babies as possible.

I just hope that Simon's handlers aren't letting him down... The same night that Gray Davis signed the bills authorizing the study of paying slave reparations in California, the media asked Simon's camp if they'd have done the same if he were governor...
... Simon's people said 'We'll have to get back to you on that'.
I don't know what Simon personally would have said, but his political handlers are dingbats.

First of all, if the study was done by the teachers union, I can't help but think they tried as hard as they could to show Davis in the lead. I suppose Simons numbers are much higher than they'll admit. Simon wants more charter schools.
I heard Simon on the Ingham show yesterday. He sounds pretty wise right now. Let's hope if (when) he wins he doesn't morph into some other type of demon like many politicians do when they recieve their gift of power.

Encinitas, a GOP-majority town... Is Encinitas really a GOP town? If so, things have changed in the 20 years since I lived in North County.

If I had the capital, I'd start up new newspapers in key cities all across the country like Los Angeles and stock them with an editorial board that would have a conservative slant. The Chicago Tribune always used to be that way until they got bought out. Now they're just like any other lefty paper.

A survey conducted by the California Teachers Association -- a group which endorsed Davis -- found Bill Simon enjoying a four-point lead over Davis, 41 to 37 percent. ... The polling firm Public Opinion Strategies Inc. says Simon leads Gray Davis 48% to 41% among registered voters. A poll conducted by Probolsky & Associates Opinion Research puts Davis's support at less than 38% of voters and Simon's at 44%. The latter two polls are out-of-date (Public Opinion Strategies took its poll in mid-March, while the Probolsky poll was done on April 2-4). I hadn't heard about the CTA poll, and could find no mention of it when I did a search. Does anyone have a link, or know when it was conducted? Otherwise there is no way of judging its significance.

If Simon wins, I wonder how he'll get along with Bush. After all, Bush was supporting (gag!) Riordan.

I encourage any of you to join the
Illegal Immigration/Invasion threads, for this is a serious issue.
In California, the invasion is linked to problems with the schools, crime, as well as numerous other issues, not to mention your out-of-control tax rates. If you do not fix the immigration problem, all of this is nearly worthless.
We need to build a larger audience for the Illegal Immigration threads. I know, I know, it's not everyone's thing, but this issue will only continue to escalate to the point that it will effect you some time in the near future.
A good place to start would be this following thread.
Thousands March For Immigrants' Rights in Los Angeles

MOST of the teachers have always been smart - it was and is the TEACHERS' UNION which is BAD - the NEA is a nightmare of an organization. They didn't support Bush in Texas either, and he still won the election. Now that the unions are not allowed to use union dues to fund their democrat candidates, more and more of the conservative teachers are beginning to speak up. This is great news - for both the teachers and Mr. Simon.
