(New York-AP) -- According to a study released today, nearly 90 percent of New York City schoolchildren were suffering at least one symptom of post-traumatic stress six months after September 11th, and 10 percent likely have the disorder.

The board of education study showed that in the 1-point-1 million pupil school system, an estimated 75,000 children likely showed six or more symptoms of post-traumatic stress enough to be diagnosed with the disorder. Mental health researchers participating in the report, which studied more than 8 thousand children at 94 schools, were particularly surprised to find that children throughout the city not just near ground zero showed symptoms of several psychiatric problems.

Researchers surveyed children in grades 4-through-12 in late February and early March, finding that 76 percent often thought about the terrorist attack, 24 percent had problems sleeping and 17 percent had nightmares. Schools Chancellor Harold Levy said the study was a ``wakeup call.''

I didn't take the post that way at all. I took it as a genuine plea to help New Yorkers get back to normal.

So you are trying to say that 9/11 was Bush and Reagan's fault?! ROFL. That kind of revisionism belongs in the garbage.

It's more than that. I am genuinely HAPPY to see tourists here now, because right after 9/11 I didn't think anyone would ever come here again that didn't have to. It's like a vote of confidence when they travel here now. I want to give them all hugs. And that is NOT normal. :D

There is enough blame to go around on all sides, and instead we need to examine

My eyes just rolled so far up into my head that I may need surgery. You're pathetic.

The Board of Ed will no doubt use the results of this study to explain why they can't teach the kids squat. In my opinion, THAT's the real reason for the study. To use it as another excuse why Johnny can't read, and to extort more money from the taxpayers.

That's an interesting theory; I wouldn't be suprised if it were true, at least to some extent.

Ok, I guess it's genuine. I just couldn't help notice that this woman's own needs were being completely ignored in favor of the needs of New Yorkers.

Frankly, I don't think New York is as desperate for tourism as some people make it sound. Naturally, the events of September 11h dampened tourism to NY, as they dampened air travel in general. But I think that's just a normal and temporary reaction which is fading as we speak. I have no doubt in my mind that NY will bounce back from this just fine.

LOL... I don't know about normal, but you're right, that is not typical. I remember when we used to complain that there were way too many tourists, and that we couldn't get passed them on the streets because they were all looking up, instead of looking where they're going.

Now instead, we're actually appreciating they're spirit.
