Your post made me realize I spelled the senator's name incorrectly; "Domenici" is indeed correct, not "Dominici." As I recall, I once got all OVER posters who repeatedly typed "Keys" rather than "Keyes," so in fairness, I should acknowledge my gaffe.
Pete could have fairly been charged with RINOism, and perhaps that's another reason why he was passed over in 1988. But it appears he's moved to the right of late, with ACU ratings in the 90s the past two years.
I see in his bio that he turns 70 in a week or so, and he seems to be carrying his years well as he runs for his sixth term this year, against what I gather is weak competition from the Dems. It does seem like he's been in the Senate forever, having been first elected at the age of 40.
With respect to Dan Quayle, I must say I like him, wish him well, and hope he resurfaces politically (why not a run against a certain Arizona Senator who has been less than popular hereabouts of late?). His treatment by the press was never fair, but life isn't fair, and the GOP brain trust should have seen it coming.
Remember Dan was the one who coined the phrase "family values" and got shredded for it. Now the liberals allow that he had a point.
