I think Jar-Jar was a tragic character and I wish to never see his face again. I'm not sure if Lucas can write a love story, but I surely hope that Episode II is better than the disappointment Episode I was. I suppose there was just too much hype for Episode I and too much for it to live up to. I'm going to see Episode II on its opening night, of course. :)

After having read the book and hearing the sound track, I believe 2 will be much better than one. As Empire Strikes Back was better than ANH.

Okay, answering your questions in order. Yes. Better than TPM, worse than the OT. It was a flawed masterpiece with some great characters (Obi-Wan...sigh) stuck in a badly paced movie. Much better, since Lucas had someone help him with the script; he needs an editor.

All I have to say is, there better be a LOT of old Ben in it or I'm walking out. I refuse to sit through any Ami/Ani love picnic fest :P

I'm hoping that Episode 2 will be a fun popcorn movie, and from what I've heard it's exactly that. Reviews state that Jar-Jar's role is significantly reduced from Episode 1 and that the movie is much more focused on action. I'll go see it, but I'll try for a matinee and not on opening day.

I'd consider the book -- Salvatore's done some decent work in the past.

Now Spider-Man -- I'll definitely be seeing that opening day :)

Finally saw Phantom Menace on DVD just last night. If Episode II doesn't have a better script(read dialog) and some REAL acting, I won't bother. Other than the special f/x, it was disappointing...and I'm a sci/fi fan.

I'll definately go see it. I was a die-hard Star Wars fan all my life until PM let me down. I'm still very much a fan, but not as much as I used to be - that's also thanks to LOTR :)

That said, I'll be there, first showing (anyone know if they're gonna have midnight showings again?)

Hey, I think this thread needs our...special input. (Remember that thread about three weeks back on this same topic?) Best evil post gets an extra pint tonight!

To answer the thread's question: I will see Clones if they have a preview for Two Towers. Otherwise I'll save my money and see it on video. Phantom Menace was totally disappointing. Actually, Return of the Jedi was a let-down, too, after Empire Strikes Back...

However, if Jar-Jar is decapitated, spaced, mutilated, tortured to death by black-masked Jedi, electrocuted, drowned, burned alive, or blown to pieces on screen - I'll be there.

I'm not sure. I was VERY disappointed in "The Phantom Menace."

What I don't understand is how Lucas expects us to see rather small, not-too-beefy Anakin Skywalker turn into a hulking, 6'6" beefy Darth Vadar ("I just love all that black leather and those broad shoulders"--LOL!!)

The Anakin they've cast is barely taller than Queen Amidala, and she's teeney!!! If this movie had been made 50 years ago, Chuck Heston would have been the perfect Anakin Skywalker!!! GOOD GRIEF Chuck was A HUNK in those days!!! (Well, actually, Chuck still is a hunk--just an 80 year old hunk, thats all--LOLOLOL!!)

I will go and take my kids to see it, probably at a matinee. Lucas first started losing me with the Ewoks and he has almost pushed me over the edge with that Jar-Jar abomination.

My passion for the Star Wars story fizzled after the release of Fellowship of the Ring. After seeing FOTR, and eagerly anticipating the next two installments, I don't think Star Wars will ever be the same to me again. I just thank goodness that George Lucas wasn't involved in writing the screenplay for any of the LOTR movies. ;^)

I saw Episode I six times, on principle.

I liked Jar Jar and he made me laugh at every viewing.

I agree that Episode I left something to be desired, but I think that "something" mostly amounted to this--I'm not 12 anymore.

I definitely intend to see Episode II (although perhaps not six times.) I hope the love story doesn't overwhelm the more serious themes of great special effects and Jedi rockin' on bad guys. I hope the romance involves little more than the following dialogue:

AMIDALA: Oh, Ani--I love you so much.

ANAKIN: I love you too, babe. Now I've got to go get into a light-saber battle.

My $0.02 worth...

Of course I will see it, no question. Our family is on our second set of videos of the first trilogy.

Episode I was, however, disappointing. Lucas needs to do better this time.

Last time I saw one of these threads there was a link to a website with many imaginative ways of killing Jar Jar Binks. It was really funny.

Will definately be there. The light saber duels in the PM made the swordplay from the previous movies look like old ladies with broomsticks.

I had heard somewhere (Long Ago and Far, Far Away) that Lucas was originally planning a NINE-part "Star Wars" story.

Any truth to this?

I'll probably watch it, but only in the hopes that Jar Jar's "reduction" involves a wood chipper...

I will be going to se AOTC, but not with the fanatic anticipation I did with Episode I. I just got too burned by Phantom Menace, although it wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. I did read that Lucas did bring in another writer, and may have had some directorial help (Phantom Menace was his first directorial job in years and years). I think it will be very good, although from the previews, the guy who plays Annakin delivers his lines with all the acting ability and charisma of Al Gore. He'll be the weakest link in this movie. Add my vote to the pile of "eagerly awaiting The Two Towers".

As it says in the latest Time Magazine

...Lucas blames the anti-Jar Jar sentiment on "37-year-old guys who spend all their time on the Internet.

Meesa like Jar Jar, will not see movie unless Jar Jar in it.

Since Jar Jar is a computer generated character, can't they just reprogram those scenes and give him a more intelligent voice with better dialogue, and just cut the slapstick? They could transform him or it into a brooding, eloquent, green, Patrick Henry figure with Bugs Bunny ears.

A very good friend of mine saw a rough cut of the film. It didn't have the music in it, but had all the special effects and dialogue. He called me up to tell me at 4:00 am my time to tell me that I had to see Attack of the Clones. Then, about a week or so ago, he saw the finished film. He was soooooooo impressed that again he calls me at 3:00 am my time to scream about how much this film rules. My friend is 35, and I'm 33. Let me say, that this friend of mine works in film and rarely has this sort of response to ANY film.

I believe that it will be a good movie, and I will go see it opening day, like the fanboy I am. I will probably see it a few times, and buy the eventual DVD. I'm a completist and I'll go see Episode 3. I know what the movie is about, and know what happens in the end, and how Anakin eventually becomes Vader. It will be a good film, although I have reservations about Hayden Christiansen, I believe that we're supposed to hate the guy. Personally I like tragic characters who fall from grace, but I think that Anakin should be inherently evil. In order to win the podrace he causes Sebulba's pod to break apart. A real Jedi wouldn't do that. He's inherently bad, and I think that's the whole point of him being essentially a spoiled brat.

When he's told about his midiclorian count, I think that was the start of his big head. Later we find out that Jar Jar has a high midiclorian count as well. How that plays out, is anyone's guess. Hayden does great as a spoiled overbearing brat. Although I would have preferred the creepy kid with the camera in American Beauty, Hayden is better choice, as he looks like one of the backstreet boys, and is a whiny brat. You're supposed to hate him, and hate who he becomes later.

That's my take, and I will probably go see it. If it sucks, I'll be the first one to tell everyone how bad.
