Clinton in running for TV job
From correspondents in Washington
27apr02
FORMER US president Bill Clinton could soon start a gig as the co-host of a morning television program, US media reported today.
ABC-TV's gossip show "Extra" reported that Clinton is a candidate to succeed retiring television host Bryant Gumbel as the co-anchor of "The Early Show" - a breakfast news program on rival network CBS-TV.
The ex-president, who left office 15 months ago, already has been busy in retirement: his William J Clinton Foundation is assembling teams of business experts to provide financial, marketing and other technical advice to owners of small businesses in Harlem, where he maintains an office.
Earlier this month he took on a new job as a senior adviser to two investment funds run by a cut price grocery store tycoon, the Los Angeles-based Yucaipa Companies said.
And he is in the process of penning his memoirs, set for publication in 2003, for publishing house Alfred A Knopf, which paid him an advance of more than $US10 million ($A18.48 million) - the largest ever for a non-fiction book published in the United States.

I'm dubious, but then....CBS does seem to have a death wish.

I think the thing to remember about billie is that while he is polished, he has no character. The longer and better you get to know someone, the more that trait comes out. Having him remain in the public eye may be the best thing he could do for his enemies. Before long he'll let his nature slip out.

Should be on
America's Most Wanted.
Or America's Least Wanted, depending on how you look at it.

Can you imagine the full-time freepin' fun this would be? The phone calls, the emails, the letters, faxes, etc. to CBS! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
To: sleavelessinseattle
Isn't he getting a new puppy to replace Buddy? Isn't he buying a home in Ireland? Isn't he the voice of the DNC? Isn't he writing a book? How is he going to keep all his prior committments? Look at it this way. He can bring all his dates with him to the studio at 5AM, LOL, LOL. Does CBS require their talk show host to be sober?

Oh, I hope this happens... It'll be like the XFL (cheerleaders included!)...
Big ratings for a week, and then a drop into the abyss. The public humiliation would be beautiful.
But Clinton's smart enough and cowardly enough to know not to risk it... Dang it!
OTH...
If he was convinced there was a right-wing conspiracy to keep him off the air and the endanger the Constiution....
To: anniegetyourgun
Actually, I believe he will do this, but not as a full-time host. I think he will do "commentary and analysis" a couple of days a week. This will let him act like he is an intellectual and attempt to undermine the Bush administration.
The plus side of this is how Katie Couric will deal with her idol attempting to undermine her ratings. Once again, we see that those who support Clinton are knifed in the back when they no longer are useful.
It IS all about him, after all.

Bubba was in the paper here today. Seems he is getting another dog.
Now let's be realistic. How much time do you think he or the Senatorette or the globe trotting spawn of the loins spend at home.
Just another PR stunt that anyone can see through. The hired help will feed and care for the animal and scoop up all the doo doo so it doesn't squish up between their toes when they go outside for another of the endless photo ops.

I have never watched the Early Show and I still won't.
Having i42 on in the morning would ruin breakfast.

He should be doing the Jerry Springer Show. He should be ON the Jerry Springer show!
To: Miss Marple
I can't imagine him doing it fulltime either. The D party is going to need him for fundraising and can't afford to have him tied down to a daily obligation.
To: mhking
LOL! Clinton has never been on time in his life...you can't run a news show when the host is always at least an hour late.

If they give him a desk to sit behind and you hear a rythmic bumping noise and he subsequently loses his train of thought during an interview, call the studio drycleaner. For Billie, the World is his Humidor!

There will be more fiction than truth in anything this disgraceful, deceitful, lying bag of wind will ever write. Assuming of course that he ever writes this book....
